You seem to not realize that just because it looks and sounds good, doesn’t mean it isn’t using a scummy practice (which lootboxes are). And there are good and bad business practices, with companies being a leech on whales is one of them.

Also, most whales are just addicts who go into debt because the game exploits their addiction. It’s why people with gambling addiction have the same impulse when it comes to lootboxes (and why gambling in the UK among kids increased base on a UK study).

i played to near the end of the game along with the DLCs.

And no, that last part is false. Unless you staff your army with really shit orcs and/or go in right of the gate without trying to weaken the castle first, you can take over all the strongholds in the game without losing a single follower.

I blame Overwatch since unlike TF2 and Counter Strike, it’s a $60 game that inspired the other corporations to go ham.

IIRC at least Volvo had the integrity to wait until after TF2 went F2P before using loot boxes.

They also heavily rely on community created content and gives the makers a cut of the profits.

Again, you’re defending a game just because it’s free and has a pretty anime look. I play Fire Emblem Heroes and I won’t defend it’s lootboxes just because of the skin. And there are plenty of anime games which don’t have lootboxes.

EDIT: About Genshin Impact, I’m not a huge fan of the loot boxes, but it doesn’t affect your playtime if you ignore them. After all, for a videogame that’s practically free, it’s amazing that this game in this scale exists.

That’s the strength of the series. They’re all similar enough that if you like one you should like another, but if you hate one you can like another.

I don’t like that the story is told in exposition, I don’t like watching teenagers fighting against the authority (like Final Fantasy VII and XIII, which have similar premises), I don’t like romances that exist just because the male and female main characters are conviniently attractive (like VIII and XIII), I don’t like turn based battles and random fights (Undertale, Earthbound and Persona 5 are the only games that got that right), etc.

All that said, I’ve been playing a little bit Final Fantasy VII this summer. It’s not the masterpiece I’ve been hearing all over the place (there are characters such as Dyne that are pointless narrative wise), but, although I don’t like the story, I like the little bits of the game (like how Aerith ended up in Midgar or how Sephiroth became insane), and the materia system is actually really good if you take some time to see how it works. I’m about to finish the game, but I need more time.

It’s not that I hate Final Fantasy. It just has some common elements and details that are incredibly annoying. As a result, I don’t like it.

Neat music though.

You should play Final Fantasy 9. It’s not like any of the ones from 5 to the modern. It’s fanciful, bold, and unique.
