If there’s one thing I’d like to see in a JRPG game, it’s a very short length. Not every story needs 90 hours to be told. Not every game has to have repetitive dialogue that makes a scene much longer.
Because, if your game has that many hours for the main story, it’s possible that your story has some filler and unnecessary scenes that you left there because “a JRPG game has to last forever”, because it wouldn’t feel like a JRPG game otherwise.
That said, I enjoyed games such as Persona 5, because, even though I’m not a huge fan of the story, it has likeable characters, it’s not hard and it doesn’t punish you for playing.
And then there’s Undertale, Earthbound, Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne and Dark Souls III.
