Eh, so I guess the demo had enough content to datamine to make it worthwhile?  
I’m used to demos only including at most 25% of the complete game, but I guess sometimes someone will release a game demo that while doesn’t let you access all of the maps/levels or story missions, but the inside of the demo is the files for every character, creature, vehicle and weapon…  
I think I remember there used to be demos that actually were the complete game but locked without the license key, so if you guessed a correct key you just unlocked the entire game.

I heard that as well. Datamining is using the data in the game/demo to learn its secrets, and since demos use a good deal of the full game’s codes/files, or are just the game but most of it is locked, it’s not hard to see how much info dataminers can find.

To me, releasing the entire game as a “demo” is just asking for trouble.  
Back in the early 90s when Id Software released the original Doom on a floppy disk as shareware, I don’t think the games wad files included anything regarding monsters or weapons or anything that was outside of the scope of its freely distributable demo. I don’t believe it was possible to unlock it to the full game without buying the game… Or your friends lending you their floppy disks of the full game… Not that I ever did that as a kid… I swear I never copied any floppies…

I’m not too worried since Platinum Games has stated that they will remain independent. Still though, it IS Tencent we’re talking about.

What games has Platinum Games released, is what I’d like to know before I decide if I am worried about a game developer being bought out by China and being censored by them.

Bayonetta, NiER, several other things. And they’re not being “bought out”, just doing business with them. They intend to self-publish now.

Okay I really liked Nier Automata so now I’m upset.  
Also being financially influenced and bought out are virtually the same in my book, even though you are right that in reality it’s two different things.
