Well, I heard that 4Kids was having different troubles with Konami and it was Upper Deck that was doing the outright shady shit.
 
But yeah, 4Kids could be pretty dumb, but their impact on the industry can’t be denied.

They knew their target audience were children and went for it head-first, though apparently there was an anime meant for older kids that they kept that way. Also, apparently the Pokemon songs were all done by them, with the Japanese theme song being very different.

Yeah, they usually did their own music because the Japanese music required separate licensing fees.

You’re forgetting Pokemon’s jukebox, which was made by 4Kids. It went gold here in the USA, and platinum in Canada.

And as the video pointed out, when Nintendo took control of the dubbing, the theme song became much more tone-down, which means that the original version for them were much more relaxed and less energetic than the 4Kids ones. Funny how giving the show catchy songs may have played a bigger role to Pokemon’s success than people want to believe.

Yeah, Otakus are oftentimes hard on english anime dubs, and especially 4Kids ones, (granted their edits are sometimes questionable, like them editing out english text signs makes NO sense, and editing death out of Sonic X) but their old Pokémon dubs were actually not bad.

Well, I’m not saying the dubs are perfect, but they’re still enjoyable.  
They probably assumed American kids wouldn’t know what they were, and considering admittedly I didn’t when I was little they were right. Still, it is odd to call them that, especially when jelly doughnuts look nothing like that. If they kept the name ricecakes might’ve become popular in America, like sushi.

Persona 4 on Pc has some horrible stutter on their anime cutscenes.
