Damn, I had just posted my thoughts on this topic in the last thread.
 
Anyway, you’re probably going to get a lot of criticism for reversing course so many times, but I think that’s actually less bad than people make it out to be. It shows that the staff were taking the issue seriously, and considering all things in their decision-making.
 
I’ve always been pretty turned-off by posts which contain naked hatefulness, and I’m sure many other users do too. I think this is probably the right decision as it discourages linking ponies to real-world issues in ways which are actively harmful to the community.
 
People are acting like this is targeting Aryanne specifically, and it probably is. However, I’m 100% confident that if a communist pony was posted (even prior to these rules changes) and talked positively about killing the Uyghurs, then that post would’ve been removed too. The only reason that’s not happening is because that’s not a particularly common opinion at the moment.
 
I think this is an entirely consistent policy decision which avoids hateful content on the site.

Free speech advocates defend things they disagree with as well as things they do agree with. It’s the principle of the thing that’s important. That said, I despise communism, but I’d defend it being posted here.

Here’s an idea.  
How about we make users vote to approve rule changes first?
