That’d be nice, but anyone in here can add and remove tags at will.

Who made the Search syntax page(http://derpiboo.ru/search/syntax), out of curiosity? It looks really great.

All of that was originally under the “Toggle syntax” thing on every search page (which K_A made when he redid the entire search parser), but it was this huge wall of text, so I moved the full version to a new page and had only the basics under the toggle button. There should also be a (very basic*) tagbox coming to the searchform probably somewhere this weekend.
 
I should probably change it to expand by default if there are no results, so that people will see it more often.
 

Have there been any discussions here about image reuploading-by-uploader without having to bother the staff with merging an old version to a new one? Further, is it currently possible/acceptable to directly request an update/reupload on an image that needed to be tweaked?

Too dangerous to let people update files or manage mergers without going through moderation; we did have this, and it was abused.
 
And mods can update images without a full reupload.

Site’s JPEG compression rate for thumbnails (and “middle res”) is too low.

How about an extra report button on the tag change site. For if you aren’t sure about an system tag. Or if there is a tag war going on.
 
For example this >>571905, it was tagged as safe, but i’m not really sure if this is just suggestive, questionable or even explicit. i see a fetish here, and Face-sitting isn’t safe for sure. So I got for questionable.

Colour coated tags in the Watch List?

A feature I saw on another sites forums was that when you hover your cursor over the thread name it previews the first post, I have zero idea if that is doable or not but it is a nice feature although those forums are massively more trafficked then this sites so it may not be essential at all,

Yeah. GIFs too sometimes get completely annihilated this way (it uses something like nearest neighbour/doesn’t recalculate a new color palette or something??)  
Anyway, yeah at least jpeg’s should be rendered better. Don’t hold me to this, but last time I checked, ImageMagick defaults to -quality 80 or something for jpegs. Should be more something like 95 imo.

You mean having Tag Changes “reportable”, just like you can report users, comments, forum posts, etc? In the first scenario (unsure about system tag) that might be useful. In the second scenario (tag war) it would still be useful, but I think something like “Tag Changes (whether added or removed) by a site mod (or trusted user or something like that – we need more modroles) can only be overridden by users with mod rights, but not “normal” users would also be a nice thing to have. (so basically, if I added juxtaposition win to an image, nobody except other mods can take it off again)
 
… what am I typing if we did that we’d still need people to at least be able to report those changes, because mods sometimes make mistakes too.

I think the quality has been chosen as a good balance between server load and, you know, the image being a thumbnail.  
You’re not supposed to enjoy a picture with that.
 
As per the gifs, I think we’re lucky enough to have animated previews. Yes, the resizing is done with a simple nearest neighborhood algorhythm, because maybe anything more advanced could be too burdensome computationally speaking.  
Too bad that thin lines just vanish with that.

Is there any way for image files downloaded from this site to be tagged with the same tags they have on derpibooru? Say if I download an image tagged with “safe, Twilight Sparkle”, the file I got will also be tagged with “safe, Twilight Sparkle”.

I really don’t understand what you mean. Like, give the image file itself meta data with the taglist?

Sounds like what he’s asking for, yeah. For the tags to be applied in the actual image file save info.
 
Relatedly, this is the first time I’ve so much as heard a hint of someone actually using this function of Windows outside of a computer class.

Yeah, that’s what I mean. But now that I think about it, don’t bother. Probably no one use it anyway, and it doesn’t take that much time to tag stuff myself.

This would also work only with JPEGs, PNGs and GIFs don’t have this kind of metadata.

I was thinking that too.  
Plus, if @Grieffon really wants this, it’s not that hard to use the API, convert everything after download to JPEG, then add the tags to the metadata etc.  
^{Also a logical folder structure gets you much further than needing to search a filesystem. If I needed search, I’d just make my own database for it}

Will there be previews for image descriptions/PMs or should one use comment previews when in doubt?

PNG can store arbitrary textual information, but unfortunately it’s not suitable for holding a simple list of tags. If you abuse tEXt (or iTXt because it’s UTF-8) creatively it’ll work, but no programs can actually display that data unless you have their source code and add the required support :-(

Also you can store it in NTFS stream, but you’ll have to find program that supports it.
