Feature suggestions and discussion [READ THE FIRST POST]

Hey there. Read through the first post and didn’t see a mention of this so thought I’d post it. Have you considered adding a “search by date” feature. The reason that I want this feature is that it would allow me to do a search, add this new parameter to it, and then sort by score which will give me the highest voted art in the time range that I am looking in.
 
You currently have a list page which allows you to look at the highest rated images in the last day/3days/month but I think this is fairly limited and I don’t believe it allows for searching a specific term within the time ranges available on that page.
 
Please forgive me if this is currently doable by some other search that I missed in the search syntax page.

You should click on the search button then. There you can set everything. Minmal, maximum score, search faves or upvotes and many more.  
If you want it chronological you have to set the Search direction from Descending to Ascending.
 
And under search => syntax you can find all sort of useful stuff for the search.

Can there be a togle feature on the activity page for the three days top scoring category? So that you can set it to safe, suggestive, questionable, explicit and all pictures via a button, either on the activity page itself or in the settings menu? It would be very nice to see some more variety there than just to have always three to four explicit pics there.

Unfortunately what I want isn’t in the search menu or syntax list. I’ve been on Derpibooru for a very long time, and I’ve sorted by score many many times throughout my stay. However, as the site gets older, the highest rated content will remain the same amazing pictures that were posted years ago, and a new picture might make it up to the top rated (all time) once every few months. What I’m after is a way to sort a search by score, while only having images that were posted after a certain date show up. This would filter out the highest rated images that have been in the top list from years ago that I’ve already seen multiple times.

Getting a notification when a mod deletes one of your comments (along with the reason?).

Has been something I want as well. I can’t find the exact post but it’s in this thread somewhere. Iirc it was something about search parameters like maybe a fancy calendar or just a simple id.gt or id.lte search parameter or something. Best would probably be a combination of sorts.

Yeah, the id number method was the kind of system I was thinking of as well, since I’ve seen a few other websites using it. I have no idea whether derpibooru is set up in a different way to those websites though which makes this kind of search parameter much harder to implement.

Would it be difficult to make the number of comments (and word balloon icon) over a thumbnail show up as a different color when comments for that image have been locked?

Comments don’t and shouldn’t be locked frequently enough for that to even be a concern. There’s less than a dozen that I know of and it would be a waste of time implementing.

But yeah, what TLL said; I don’t know how many locked threads there are, but pretty sure it’s less than ten. I think.

There are? I think I’ve never seen one.

Considering there’s almost always a final comment from an admin saying “comments locked” (and if there isn’t, someone, probably me, utterly forgot and will have to find and fix the mistake), I don’t think it’s really necessary to add in a site feature to indicate an image is locked.
 
EDIT:Yeah, forgot to explicitly say that I locked that image.

Most people just kind of stop replying, or it devolves into Spiderman/Jontron.
 
Wish they were locked, though. I’m subscribed (participant or no) to nearly every drama thread, and there’s always someone posting on one months after the last comment.
 
Anyway, I generally prefer to just ban obvious rabble-rousers than to force everyone to be quiet.

Would it be possible to automatically convert the useless DA url people love to post to the link to the actual page?

How about little icons for streams in stream list?  
- for picarto streams  
- for livestream streams
 
Or at least text: “pic” or “liv”.

If it’s not already present, filtering images in the comments (assuming they’re hosted on-site). For off-site ones, where applying the user’s filters obviously isn’t possible, an option to only load them when you click on them.

It would save a lot of client-side bandwidth and memory when stumbling across an image with 20 GIFs in the comments. Not to mention it would save me having to look at 50 images of the same ugly guy which has nothing to do with the comments discussion but which some users seem to love posting anyway.

I don’t have the time to read all comments, but has the suggestion been made to have the ability to completely disable comments on uploads? I see more and more artists leaving derpibooru because of toxic/rude/etc comments on their drawings. Maybe a simple “disable comments” button on the upload page could be added?

I’m guessing it would be pretty much instantly abused by douchebags and trolls to post offensive garbage without anyone being able to mock them for it, and might possibly lead to the Report this image button catching fire and falling off.

Actually it saves no bandwidth. Hotlinked images are delivered from the site they’re on (which is why many sites try to stop hotlinking to them).

There really is zero excuse for hotlinking since Imgur came online, huh. I think they may have meant bandwidth on our end, though, which is a real issue for anyone on mobile without an unlimited plan if they accidentally stumble onto a thread where twenty different knobs have all mistaken “posting the same grawlixing Jontron GIF” for “being clever or funny”.

Just turn off images in comments with AdBlockPlus Element Hider, big deal.
