"GIF" tag on "animated" images

Isn’t it redundant to have the gif tag on images when the animated tag is already provided. Sure there are animated PNGs but those come far and few between the rest of the images already here on the site.

There are some tags out there that ought to be merged.
 
I suppose that initially ‘animated’ stood for actually animated gifs instead of all that stuff that is converted from videos. They’re mixed up now.
