Logging in with Account Name

I may be the only one who actually cares about this, but has anyone on the staff given any thought to allowing us to log in with our account names rather than our email addresses? I say this because my account name is shorter and faster to type than the email.  
Is there any reason you guys use email for login?

Also, is there any way to use an uploaded image on this site as my avatar?

Avatar, yeah. It’s the button right next to logout.
