Indeed; we know that if we do this it isn’t the ideal solution, but until we can implement better features it is the best solution. Default filters will likely be revisited once we have quick filter changes and/or filter presets.

Wouldnt it be better if we added to some kind of delay for certain meme pics? I mean, not block their upload but say:

You upload…idk.. 5 chickun pics within an hour. Well, you gotta wait another hour to upload 5 more chickun pics. That way the site is not filled with those pics all the time. Also, if multiple people do it at the same time (aka organized uploading) then it can be considered spam.

Sorry, forgot to login.

What i am saying is: instead of finding ways to block the content we should regulate the rate in which it is uploaded. Instead of going into a full diet, lets just eat a a little less.

We have the manpower to do what we’re proposing, we do not have the manpower to implement more features any time soon. We also may not have the server power to have rate limits for every user/IP per tag.

Anyone else think there should be a tag to filter types of pornography?
Call me picky, but I don’t mind humanized, but I’m less enthusiastic on normal/anthro. It’d be useful if we could hide the specific types.

I dont know, i am quite wary about blocking content and stuff. I believe it should be spoilered by detault… but i dont know.
Background Horse

I say that we at least make a spoiler image for it so we can spoiler them, and if we want them hidden, we hide them ourselves. I’ve hidden individual meme tags such as “screaming armor” so I can browse certain tags without having to sift through those memes.

Most users don’t mind seeing memes (at least, I think so), and some people actually like memes and don’t want to waste time creating an account for a only a few things, so we should better keep it.

@JP
I don’t want to see gore, so because it no longer can be hidden (you said: “And I’d rather that filters were removed entirely”),

And I said that I knew I wouldn’t be getting my way. Even if I had that authority, I still wouldn’t prevent people from filtering what they wanted, as much as I dislike the idea of hiding everything that you don’t like. I dislike censorship in any form, but I don’t want to force people to look at stuff that they don’t like, either.

I can’t muster up any sympathy for whining about seeing image thumbnails, though. Seriously. You’re going to have to deal with that just looking at avatars on a forum.

Sorry about that. Now, would you show Saving Private Ryan to your (hypothetical) four-year old kid? Or Anal Orgies 5? Would you let him play, say, Brutal Doom?

Not hiding something means not concealing it’s existence. In no way is that remotely the same as forcing someone to watch it.

I can’t honestly say that image thumbnails seen by someone old enough to navigate the internet compares to showing a four year old porn or war movies. You’re getting pretty far afield there. I don’t even have any movies that compare to what you’re talking about, either.

For the record, no, but a four year old is also considerable younger than someone browsing DerpiB. I expect someone browsing DerpiB to be old enough to deal with the stuff that they’re going to find on the internet.

I was going to type you a reply about hiding stuff and you know what? I’m not going to do it.

This is pointless. Never mind.

Look, I still don’t want to see what I don’t want to see, and that includes the thumbnails. If you don’t understand even that, then I don’t think there’s anything to discuss any further, if there ever even was any discussion.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I feel like the single biggest reason this is up for discussion is chikun. Ban chikun, remove all chikun posts, and (if possible) IP ban the guy who keeps spamming it. Sorta like what we did with fluffy pony back in the day, except this time it’s just one guy who’ll get mad and not a booru’s worth.
And Brother I Hurt People
Magnificent Metadata Maniac - #1 Assistant
The 1% - Uploaded 1% or more of the site's images
Squirrel - "Is there a badge for being an oblivious fuck?"
Perfect Pony Plot Provider - 10+ uploads with over 350 upvotes or more (Questionable/Explicit)
Thread Starter - /dis/the-cringe-thread
Fine Arts - Two hundred uploads with a score of over a hundred (Safe/Suggestive)

I feel like the real problem here is that the same people tend to spam the exploitable memes within a certain time frame; perhaps instead of outright hiding memes, provide spammers with bans or, if you want to be more fair about it, give some sort of limit.

Though hiding memes is probably the easier way to go.

And as someone said before, perhaps a spoiler is needed.

@JP
Spoilering or hiding images is nowhere near difficult enough to justify messing with other people.

Hide them for yourself all you want. Don’t hide them for anyone else.

@And Brother I Hurt People
The problem has always been spamming them. No one would notice… Well, no would care if they were posted in moderation.

The only way to prevent that is to limit uploads in a given time period, but that would only work if a single person was uploading them. I don’t know how many people were involved in the chickun thing, but other memes generally have multiple people posting them.

@Grieffon
If the meme is filtered, how would I even know that it exists? I don’t check my settings every five minutes.

Adding a meme to the filter list is less trouble because you only do it as needed instead of having to check the filter list every day for new additions.

Most users don’t mind seeing memes

While I am on the side of leaving the images alone, this is a good point. “But most people like/don’t like memes” is easy to say, but there’s no data to back it up. We need some way of getting this data. Like a… poll of some kind.

Oh wait.

@Grieffon
If anyone likes meme, just go unfilter it. Is it really troublesome?

You do realize that can be turned right around to “If anybody dislikes meme, just go filter it. Is it really so troublesome?”, right? Heck, that’s what I did with “chickun” a while back. Didn’t even know there was a recent spamming problem with it until the poll was made. And yes, while you could claim that potential new comers could be irritated away by such things, it can also wind up where people miss out on content they might enjoy, or even help convince them to stick around, if the material is hidden.
ExtremeLurkerHomeEdition

Support this completely. The site is primarily for art, that’s what a new user should see when they join. If someone connects for the first time and they think that the only difference between Derpibooru and Know Your Meme is that we have smaller pages, they aren’t going to even bother joining and finding out that filters and settings even exist.

What you are proposing is only sweeping the trash under a rug. I wish you would delete and forbid lazy exploitable memes entirely. They are not art and many times are barely pony related. The TV meme in particular is used almost exclusively just to get non pony content on the site.

If artistic merit was in any way relevant to something being posted on DB, I wouldn’t need a dozen tags in my filter list to wall off morons posting selfies and wanking on plastic dolls.

I agree, which is why matters like this should be handled case-by-case, and by voting to see what is the general opinion.

With that said, I still think that meme really should be filtered. What would be more likely: people leaving because all they see is meme, or people leaving because they don’t see any meme?

@Sjogre
The same way you find out about explicit and grotesque. These changes don’t happen “every 5 minutes”, they only comes up once or twice a year. And when the change is implemented, there’s always a message on top of the site that notifies the users.
