A question about the Diamond Dogs

Just what did they want jewels for? Do they eat them, like dragons? Do they use them as money? Do they just like them because they’re shiny?

Well on that note, what do ponies use them for? They certainly don’t use them for money. Rarity uses them for flitters on school dresses and Sweetie Belle glues them to make paper pictures. Clearly, they see them as little more than colored glass. (They probably use them becaause glass is, after all, difficult to make.)

My headcanon is that they originally served dragons so they originally dug for them for dragons, but that behaviour has since become ingrained.

Well, we don’t precisely know the price of that machine in bits. For all we know it might cost as much as our regular ventilators. Even if we know that gems worth less there than in our world because of their abundance, their rate is surely higher than 1bit=1gem because of their important decorative utility, and trade value with dragons.
 
As for diamond dogs needs for them, I don’t know, maybe it have something to do with some crystal/gems being magic. They could have some kind of sorcerer who can fill gems with magic for them but I really create this idea out of nothing.

They probably leased that machine for the day.

Because if they didn’t want them, they’d just be dogs.

The only people that ever treated them as disposable are friends with either Spike or Rarity. One eats them, the other can find them at will.
 
Everyone else treats them as valuable. Even Spike and Rarity treat them as rare and precious.

The diamond dogs are the worst character
