Do we overanalyze too much?

I was just thinking, with all of the stuff we try to find in these episodes, are we missing the mark? I sometimes think the best answer is the simplest one, and with FiM it can often be deduced quickly enough.

personaly dude i think you tend to over analyze alot. but i could be wrong. as for the fandom. simplicity is often best

Think of it this way: If we analyze this much, the writers will likely do the same, probably even more than we do.
 
Example? They used a chord progression called “Deceptive Cadence” in the BBBFF song to hint about what would happen.

True, I suppose. And I guess as long as one has an interpretation that isn’t completely off-base…

If individuals want to over-analyze, that’s fine. I just see a silly (not to be taken in a negative context) show with well made characters and a lot of old-school charm.

I don’t personally think that overanalysing is bad per se, just that it leads to people projecting too much fanwank into the show.
 
Case-in-point: Alicorns are immortal. Lots of people seems to think that they are immortal, a conclusion reached by analysing the source material and those involved with making said source material; even though there is little evidence from the narrative itself to support that conclusion.

we’re adults or “adults”, we tend to be more complex thinkers than kids are. We have higher standards and are more difficult to impress.

But at what point do we have to say to ourselves “this is a show for children, it may not be that deep?”
 
On the other hand, the writers clearly don’t treat their intended audience like they’re idiots.

I peruse the TVTropes pages, and looking at the Fridge sections, I’d say the guys there do.

meh, I don’t overanalyze much, but when I do is just to amuse myself and not trying to reach any “higher conclusion”.

In Gravity Falls (a really good cartoon currently airing on Disney), there is a faint whisper in the intro. Play it in reverse and you get a different message. The message hints a type of cipher. You then use that cipher to decode cryptograms in every episode, giving hints of future episode or funny remark of the one just aired.
 
That is something not even relative overanalyze can get you.

Take some things too seriously yes, sometimes. Overanalyze. Eeeeeeeeeeeh. Depends on the person.

Yeah, after going through a bunch of different sites, not only do we overanalyze, but man do we make it personal.
 
I’ve also seen enough expletives and curses directed at Meghan McCarthy to last a lifetime, there’s a bunch of people who reeeeeeeeaaaaaaalllllly dislike her and take it incredibly personally.
 
Like, it’s almost scary.

She’s the story editor, and people scapegoat her for perceived declines in the show. Also, she likes to joke around on occasion. Then again, this fandom responds poorly no matter what.
 
If she tweeted nothing about the show, we’d worry that she wasn’t confident about it. If she tweeted seriously about the show, we’d worry that Hasbro was getting too involved. If she continues tweeting like she has been, we worry that she’s not taking our complaints seriously.
 
All sides lose no matter what.

Why do we even watch this show? Can’t really pinpoint logically speaking. My theory is, We all have our inner child within us for our entire lives, we may change appearance overtime by age, we may behave or try to behave more in a “sophisticated” manner to look acceptable to society, but there is always that part that keeps us children.
 
Adulthood is all just an elaborate act. In reality, we are all children no matter what age we are.

I think I know what you’re getting at…though I’m struggling to come up with a definition for it. Like I said: I don’t mind overanalysis, but we have to remember that well…it isn’t really a show in what MrBtongue would define as a “nit-picky genre”.
 
As I noted above, what I have a problem with is people projecting what they think they know about the show, into what they think the show is about, which leads into:

Because certain fans think they know what the show is about, they take any deviation from their (?headcanon?; I can’t think of a better term, sorry) as either an offense, or an example of the show’s decline.
 
Combine this with Word of Faust, and you have a toxic mix, my friend.
 
(This is why I take anything Faust says with a grain of Salt regarding the show, because she doesn’t have all the answers either, and she even said so)

Overanalyzing and making it personal aren’t bad things if we could control ourselves.
 
We love to take the tidbits found in episodes and to fill the gaps left by canon, so we analyze everything over and over. That was how so many precious character interpretations, fan arts, and fan fics, and even our beloved Derpy Hooves were born. Face it: the wall-eyed muffin-loving time-lord-dating best-mother-of-Equestria that we all cherish isn’t a product of canon; but of analysis and overanalysis of canon AND fanon combined.
 
We make it personal because we love the show. We’re passionate about this show we are fans of, and we’re dedicated to it, it’s following, and the fandom as a whole. If we weren’t, Derpibooru ALONE wouldn’t have reached the 250,000 image mark. That’s not even counting the onslaught of pics on Deviantart, numerous Derpibooru-ish sites, fan fiction sites, etc.
 
Neither of these are bad things, but anything is bad in excess; we just need to relax and not get our jimmies rustled so easily. Do I need to remind you all about Princess Cadence? People reviled the idea of another alicorn, and let’s face it, she was invented specifically to sell toys, but look what came of it: an awesome season finale, the best villain in the series yet, and of course a certain alicorn princess we actually came to love and enjoy. It’ll be the same way with Princess Twilight, with this Equestria Girls thing (Whatever will come of that), and with whatever we decide to bawl about next time.
 
TL;DR: Analyzing and having a personal attachment to the show are fine. It’s when this gets out of control that shit hits the fan.

Because honestly I just think about things nonstop throughout my day and I have a pretty good memory so I go through a lot of thoughts regarding the show and come to conclusions.
 
Sometimes I go back to certain episodes to make sure I’m remembering it correctly but honestly I’ve only seen each episode once.

Depends on what you mean by “over analyze”. I personally like analyzing the show, but for things that interest me. I don’t analyze the show to point out flaws like some people do, but more to come up with theories and little tidbits that might not be found without some thinking.

IMO bronies in general are good at being casual about stuff, on Derpibooru at least.

I don’t have anything against light-hearted analyzation but when it becomes obsessive search for obscure faults to hit writers with… Eh I don’t like it.

When people conclude that there has been at least a genocide, some murders, and multiple attempted murders, that’s when we’ve overanalyzed too much. :P
