Official Character Bashing thread

Because When a Protagonist is bland we are told to wait until the devolop some more (Celestia, Shining, Cadence, Brad.) But when an antagonist is bland they are worst character ever. (Lightning dust, Diamond dogs, king Sombra, Blueblood)

Well, there’s nothing we can do about Sombra unless they can magic up a way to bring him back, and Magic Duel and Keep Calm and Flutter On are the only episodes to have a return of an antagonist, which teaches us that they might do the same thing (redemption arc) so there will be potential for villains to return.
 
It’s just that the target audience might not like villains.

I really don’t like these “things I hate” threads (I just don’t see the point of getting worked up over a cartoon about ponies, which is why I mostly stay away from the Episode Discussion threads), but you know what? I’ll bite.
 
I don’t really like how they make Zecora infallible and always right, even when she’s wrong (“Just for Sidekicks” ), especially when it means making the other characters look incompetent without her aid. It’s one thing to be wise, but even the Princesses have made mistakes at some point.

When will Cadence and SA just fuck off?  
They are a deleterious presence.

Oh wait. This thread is about punching bags. You don’t want her developed because that would make her less of one.
 
Also, we know as much about Cadance as we do Celestia. No one complains that she’s just a “wise mentor” archetype who likes cake and is used as a plot device.

This is annoying to me as well. I know it’s designed to make the ponies look stupid, but Zecora is never not right. At least they made her donate the gem Spike gave her instead of spending it like the others.

Should they automatically get screen time just by virtue of showing up?

No Trixie? I’m gravely disappointed. She has no potential, no redeeming qualities, no reason to be redeemed, arrogant, boisterous, egotistical, and is better off a one-shot character that shows to be the Gilda version for Twilight.
 
Pinkie Pie is just plain annoying. Her form of “lulz-random” comedy gets old very fast.
 
Don’t even get me started on the potential Mary Sue that is Fluttershy. She’s supposed to be a shy, calm, and motherly pony, yet she was scared of everything, including her own shadow. What’s so Sueish about her? She was basically the only reason Discord turned good.

No, because they have potential to be developed into interesting characters. I want to see more of them because I think interesting stories can be told of them. I don’t know if it will be brought into the continuity, but the Crystal Heart Spell book started to make her interesting.
 
Back on topic:  
Gilda couldn’t adapt to change. Trixie was boastful. Lightning Dust? A freaking sociopath who deserved everything that happened to her. I’m glad they didn’t go with the alternate ending. Skill is useless if you’re as wreckless as she was. I worry when people try to redeem such a character.

Blueblood, Chrysalis and Sombra are beyond redemption, and anyone who say otherwise is beyond redemption.

Yea. That’s my philosophy. True evil isnt a Dark Lord leading an army of Orcs but it’s more subtle.  
Evil wants you to feel sorry for it, it wants you to accept it.  
Old vampire myths represented this with vampires needing an invitation to your home, evil had to be accepted.
 
Hence why SA and Cadence must be purged before they become accepted!
 
I’m being slightly facetious of course, I dont hate either of them… Yet. S4 will either make or break them.

Blueblood is a child of the bourgeoisie, Chrysalis’ MO is inherently evil to her enemies but just part of survival for her species, and Sombra is just a shell being pulled around by magical corruption. None of them can be redeemed, but especially not Sombra.

Sorry, I just have a hard time seeing Canterlot elite other than Fancy Pants as anything but spoiled, lazy, and condescending elite who make everyone else do their work. Blueblood is the epitome of this, and the reason why Canterlot finds itself at odds with other cities so much.

If thats so then why are People who like Diamond Tiara and Blueblood are told that “Those two cannot be redeemed” Like all antagonist have to be redeemed otherwise they cannot be liked?

If you pay attention to her mannerisms Rarity has become less snobby than she was initially.

There’s nothing wrong with liking a jerk character. Just realize that people like them because they’re jerks, and don’t expect them to act nice or change.
 
However, I’d wager most enjoy seeing jerks get their comeuppance rather than being redeemed.

Well yes, but it was never Rarity who is/was an intolerable snob. She never even was initially. Many of the Canterlot elite are. The reason they treated Rarity with respect after her friends crashed the party isn’t because they realized she had genuinely good character. No, it was because their upward social mobility would be damaged if they didn’t agree with Fancy Pants, the one guy there who wasn’t a complete fake.

what I don’t get about Fancy Pants is that he was called the most important pony in canterlot. But that would mean hes more important than Celestia, Luna, Blueblood, Cadence and Shining(They both were still in canterlot at the time). Perhabs it was just a title and hes only more important than the othe nobles.
