It was an increadibly re-watchable episode, don’t get me wrong. What I have problems with is the characterization of Apple Parents.
Pear Butter has basically no negative character traits, making her into a marry sue. She is the only mother (Mrs. Shy - Lack of assertivness; Windy Whistles - doesn’t understand when her actions become hurtfull to her daugther; Twilight Velvet - carelessnes; Stellar Flare - trying to plan her son’s life for him; Cloudy Quartz - too attached to “tradition”) to be shown with only positive personality. The only thing you could say is that she is naive, but even that would be a strech. Granted, it doesn’t stop her from being awesome character, but due to being one dimensional, it makes her personality really shallow as she is nothing more than a “lover for Bright Mac”.
Bright Mac is generally a meh copy of Big Mac. Due to Pear Butt-er- stealing all the spotlight, he doesn’t have his chance to shine. Again, his character isn’t much more than “a lover to Pear Butter”.
Hasbro did a great thing. They made a pair of rather simple characters and made fans (including me) love them. What they should do now, is at least one more episode where they build up on the characters, turing them into more “realistic” pony beings.
We had great one-episode parent introductions (Mrs. Shy, Windy Whistles and Stellar Flare) which established characters perfectly, so no follow up was needed. (Altough I’d love to see an episode where Sunburst and Starlight’s parents do as they promised and visit ponyvile and/or crystal empire)
We also had “Less-perfect” character introduction in form of Twilight Velvet, Cloudy Quartz and Cookie Crumbles (Why didn’t she get an episode yet?), with 2 of them (mainly Twilight Velvet) gaining alot from having her appearance in “Once upon a Zepplin”, which has made her much more interesting.
I belive that Apple Parents could also benefit from having one more episode about them.
