That episode was mediocrity at it’s finest. It doesn’t do anything exceptionally well, but it doesn’t also mess with anything important. It’s the exactly right level of “alright” that I really liked it.
The only con I could find about this episode is that I really didn’t like the “School Trip” scene with Doctor Whooves. Episode 100th was a bit much with making him to be not-The Doctor, but it still was alright. This one seems to be pushing the idea that he is just a regular crazy scientist even furthert. The kind that would put kids on an improvized electric chair. Granted, this scene could be done a bit better if the performance of the Doctor would be a bit more “Doctor-ish”. He seemed a bit too “emotional” for that, which is the only thing I can nitpick about.
There is also the fact that it seems like the writters forgot that Trixie was a pretty good sub teacher in A Matter Of Principals (if not for discord), so I’m not really sure why she is portrayed as a complete mistake in this episode. I guess it’s only proving my theory that none of the writters actually watch the previous episodes of the show.
Also, Sunburst. Why do we need to see him again? Nobody in thier right mind would put such asshole (Trivial Problem) on the possition of a Vice Headmare. That attitude alone would make him completly unfitting for the job, as this would mean he would also fail the second test that Starlight made. It’s especially wierd, since at this point, it seems like his mother would be much better Vice Headmare (planning skills, charisma and with the help of Starlight’s Dad, she could be a pretty good History teacher).
Also, I really don’t understand the inclusion of Octavia in the episode. She was interested in the job, passed every test but then leaves at the end of the episode. She was written so perfectly into this story, that it feels like a complete waste to leave her out like this. It’s not even a scene, but she is just mentoined to have quit the job. That’s a really horrible waste of something which could have work out so well.
Besides that, it was an alright episode. Nothing exceptionally good nor bad. It’s prefectly re-watchable, tough Trixie is getting annoying at times. I look forward to what we will see next week.
