Why Chrysalis wasn't reformed

Why do you think she wasn’t reformed
 
I think it’s due to the fact that writers made her to be genuinely horrible and unredeemable, but we interpreted her to be sympathetic

IDK, the ending to the 3-villain arc felt rushed, but I think they would have been beyond saving even if it had been handled more competently.

Chrysalis is definitely wearing some leather pants according to the fandom.
 
Personally, I’m glad they weren’t redeemed, because the Legion of Doom idea is way too much fun, and there is so much more that could be done with it. It would be a shame for it to just end there. You could really explore their characters, delving into what it means to be good, and how one can do good with “bad-oriented” powers.

It comes from the phrase “Draco in Leather Pants”. Within the Harry Potter fandom there was this massive trend of trying to make Draco Malfoy out to be this poor misunderstood woobie who never did anything wrong, or otherwise downplay how much of a dick he was. Normally for the sake of shipping him with other characters.
 
It has a related trope: Ron the Death Eater. Where those same fans go out of their way to demonize Ron and make him out to be a terrible person just to justify shipping Draco with Hermione.

I guess the writers couldn’t figure out how to do it well. I can’t really say I wish they had tried. I don’t want a cheap reformation just because leaving me with rainbow beetle Chrysi, like Discord before her she is just more compelling as a villain.

Was Discord ever a villain? He’s never struck me as evil even during his first appearance he seems to be acting on survival instinct

I think it’s less that he’s a villain, and more that when you have power over all reality, you don’t exactly need to consider the needs and feelings of others. If anything, the way Pinkie and Cozy go completely mad with power after just a few seconds makes me appreciate just how far Discord has come.

Because she was too evil and she hated the concept of friendship, not to mention her massive vendetta against Starlight for taking away her entire livelihood.

I would hardly call warping reality for your own amusement while mentally and/or emotionally destroying anypony who tries to stop you “survival instinct”.

By the point of S6, Chrysalis had rejected an offer of friendship and being a good leader to her subjects, out of pure spite and pride, narcissism.
 
In S8, she was kinda planning on making Starlight suffer a terrible death, and it became very evident that she 100% blames Starlight for making her lose her hive.
 
So when you have a being who consciously chooses to be evil like that, even at the cost of their sanity, health, and happiness, when they had a surefire way out, when they’d literally lose almost everything, how do you reform them, without it feeling contrived?
 
Chrysalis being sadistic has been evident since her debut, and “find food for my subjects” was in the context of “gain power.”
 
“Loving Mommy Chryssie” is nothing more than a misguided fandom invention, as is her only doing what’s necessary for her subjects (again, she enjoyed everything about ransacking a city and terrorizing civilians far too much in her debut) Nothing in canon substantiated that implication at all, in a meaningful way.
 
So yeah, continuing on DerpyFast and gingerninja666 said, there was (hell, there still is) some serious Draco in Leather Pants going on. There’s a fundamental disconnect between how a good portion of the fandom saw Chrysalis, and her canonical portrayal, there always has been.
 
Fanon Chrysalis, in the eyes of a lot of the fandom, would be a sweet cuddlebug who just needs love and hugs and such, maybe a bit of a Tsundere.
 
Canon Chrysalis would torture you to death with a smile on her face, is an absolute megalomaniac, and she only loves herself.

I think this writer tweet is kinda telling as well (guy who helped write the S6 finale, wrote The Mean 6, Frenemies, The Summer Sun Setback, and The Ending of the End, part 2).
 
Her mindset is something that unless it’s portrayed as unnerving in comparison to anyone approaching normal, on some level, you might be going about it wrong.

Because she started out with the sympathetic motivation of finding food for her subjects. Which is undercut by the fact that she’s not doing a very good job, and is more focused on conquest than on providing.
 
It helps that she has a great design, and that the idea of “Mommy Chrissy” is a really pleasant one. So much so, that I actually watch the tag.  
 
Fans have a tendency to get attached to ideas they like.

Another factor is that people also tend to find her attractive. That can count for a lot of it.

She’s basically a perfect blend of cute, sexy and scary.  

There’s probably also the horny side of the fandom to consider. A good-sized set of fans like the concept of her having a sexual relationship with Shining Armor, the pony who’d likely be her canon rape victim were the show appropriately ballsy, either as the dom or his (& maybe Cadence’s) pet. Ngl, I watch the tag of the shipping of the 3 because of the art. But, the wide appeal does require most of the portrayals to alter Chrysalis’ personality to be less sadistic than canon, especially pet Chryssy. I sure as hell would never want to get intimate with anyone with the personality of canon Chrysalis.

Heck, the mind control intertwines with another point: Chrysalis’ behavior as “Cadance” kinda eerily reminds you of how an abusive relationship might go.
 

 
She’s controlling (the dictation of what to wear), and it seems like she didn’t mind at all, the pain involved with not doing everything she wanted.
 
(You couldn’t see her horn when he coincidentally got the headache to know for sure, but still, I think it’s telling, and she did cast a spell on him immediately after those words)
 
Nothing about her canon self would be a desirable partner, and I’m saying that as a male.

I am not against the idea as a concept, however, people treat it as a cute and quirky thing rather than delve into the darkness, therefore just making it even worse. imo at least.
