Puppy’s Cycle (Part 1)

Puppysmiles hadn’t really slept in a while. Not that she could anymore, apparently. Even with a “new body” to physically anchor herself.

Having to do the surgery while wide awake was definitely scary, though.

“Sweetie Belle” had inserted all these weird devices into her. Twenty, to be exact.

Three “Comms Utility implants”, all in her head. One in her left ear, one in her right cheek, and one embedded in her skull.

Seven “Life Support Utility implants”, one in her head, two in her cannons, two in her “wrist knees”, and two more in her torso, one next to her heart and the other behind her navel.

Nine “Functional Utility implants”, one in each fetlock, one in each of her front hooves just inside the frog, another in her head, and the last two next to her other torso implants.

And the scariest. One Spinal Implant to rule them all, One Spinal Implant to find them, One Spinal Implant to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. She was flipped over, and a large plug like device was inserted into her withers and wired to her spinal cord. This would signal the other implants below the neck.

Unfortunately, since she had a pacemaker, there was more work to be done on that front, since the implants would interfere. Though it was just a matter of wiring her pacemaker to the two implants that had been placed next to it and just hoping for the best.

During the surgery, “Rarity” had measured her up and enclothed her in a tight “silk-lycra” suit with some “latex” components that they called a “plugsuit”. “Plaid Stripes” had brought in some yellow things which had then vanished when Rarity touched something on the spinal implant’s containment casing. It’s like they were measuring her for something.

Now she was done, Serenity was up next. Everypony else had either fainted, thrown up, or simply been scared immobile.

The only other exception was Slug, who had nodded off when Serenity raised her hoof, still reeling from his near death coma earlier. Being shot 17 times - one shot completely shattering part of his left cannon bone - and being hit in the face with a plank certainly wasn’t a healthy experience. He’d lost 86% of his blood and had to have a transfusion, and was out completely for nine days and in a vegetative state for another nine (During which Puppy kept him company from within her containment cage), and was still phasing in and out on a mostly consistent schedule until just yesterday. The doctors said he’d be completely right by tomorrow, though; this was the first time he’d passed out today, and it was almost lunch.

It was strange for Puppy to think about, that somepony could be asleep for so long. Even stranger, the doctors said she’d been asleep for two hundred years. That was quite a huge number for her to comprehend. While she’d been asleep in the kitchen, entire generations of ponies had been born, grown up, and died without her knowing. She shuddered at the very thought of it. Sleeping would never be the same for her. Never ever again.

She sat down next to Blackjack, being careful to avoid the spew the mare had left on the floor. Puppy squished into Blackjack, feeling her legs. Her mechanical legs. It was weird, to think Blackjack’s legs were machines and she could control them. Though Puppy was getting used to that too, part of her “regenerated body anchor” had failed to properly regenerate and needed simple fixing, namely her back right hoof. Unfortunately, it turned out her legs were all different lengths somehow…

Serenity was so ecstatic she couldn’t sit still. It took telling her 28 times she need to go under the anaesthesia for her to comply. Eventually she slipped the gas mask on and went to sleep. Puppy was jealous.

Looking at the view screen, she saw the surgical device insert a tiny tethered robot into the side of Serenity’s navel. In a web of magical-looking vines and roots covered in small red cracks, the surgical robot installed a small microchip.

Blackjack got up and left. Puppy did the same. How could Serenity be so ecstatic about having machines put in her? It just seemed wrong somehow.

Of course, Puppy was being, what was the word, hypocritical? She’d always had a machine in her, she just didn’t know about it until now.

A strange ringing suddenly echoed in her ears. Strangely, she couldn’t locate the source of the noise. Thinking she was just hearing things, she decided to ignore it and continue walking.

Her plugsuit felt funny. It wasn’t too different from the spacesuit she was wearing before, being a body-hugging buttery yellow garment, but it was perhaps a little too tight.

Puppy suddenly stopped, observing a pile of urine on the floor.

“Sorry about that puddle, squirt, Boing had a bit of an accident. Turns out she has a bit of trauma.”

Puppy turned around and saw a large, cream humanoid pony carrying a mop.

“Look, kid, I– Hang on, I gotta answer a call.”
