Cartoon/Western Animation General

This will piss people off but everyone I know who went to see the Lion King loved it, including my parents

Hell, Movie Gallery was how I saw several odd horror movies, including Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers and the like.
 
Also allowed me to see the “movie” for the Disney teen Hercules series (really several episodes with a wrap-around story connecting them with adult Herc and Meg) and the pilot movie for Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.

Speaking of Disney. I thought of having to draw a Dragonified Sofia in MLP style.  

 
and Yeah I know that in one of the episodes of Sofia the first, that there was that part about Sofia becoming a dragon.

So I decided to draw a dragonified Sofia in a MLP-style.  
However when I try to draw Smolder and Spike, it turned out that I almost made them a little bigger.
 
sigh I’m not sure if I got it right but I kinda like dragonified Sofia in MLP style.  
Even though I’m a dragonlover. So yeah…
 
I would do the color one later… or maybe someone tries to vector it and colors it.

Cartoons today just don’t have quality lip sync.

I generally hear that the problem is that it’s not so much bad as much as unnecessary. It’s just beat-for-beat the animated Lion King movie except in CGI and mostly new voice actors.

I didn’t like how they had the characters talk.I thought the movie could be played silent,like a fake nature documentary.

I hear the Aladdin movie wasn’t bad either, (the Sonic drama kinda made everyone take back everything nasty they said about CGI Wil Smith Genie) but my one gripe is one character I couldn’t imagine recast was Iago the parrot.  
Considering that’s Gilbert Gottfried’s favorite role, and he’s reprised it, every single time the character has appeared, (even in every episode of the ‘90s Aladdin TV show, House of Mouse, Kingdom Hearts games, the Aladdin DVD rereleases, or any brief cameo) it almost feels like a crime to not have him return, and I’m wondering why Disney replaced him with a lesser known comedian, and a less iconic voice.
 
Maybe it’s ‘cause of his more recent edgy/vulgar comedy acts, but that didn’t stop Disney from using other comedians.

Gottfried’s voice would’ve been really out of place in a “grounded” live-action remake, that’s why.

Well, he was in the Eddie Murphy “Dr. Doolittle,” and frankly that was more realistic then Aladdin in comparison.

A movie about a guy who finds a flying carpet and lamp-inhabiting magical genie in a mystical cave then does battle against an evil mage vizier is “grounded”.

I think his point was, by modern Disney company logic, it being live-action automatically makes it more “realistic.”

“Grounded” as in it doesn’t look or feel like a cartoon anymore, so now people can take it seriously, I guess. You’d be surprised how a single voice could break that vibe.

Sadly, realism is all the rage now, with movies, and video games. (Heck, even every fantasy cartoon has to be meta, and self-aware constantly too, to be more “realistic”) Heck, in the video game thread, they said Naughty Dog admitted they aren’t interested in revisting Crash Bandicoot, (which Activision basically owns now) or contributing to that series, or making anymore “cartoony” games, because they only want to make “realistic/mature games now.”
 
It’s sad that cartoony stuff is still getting labeled “childish.”

Yeah, Disney tends to go on a realistic way, but they didn’t put something realistic in Disney Junior.  
Do you have any thoughts about Disney Junior? If so then what do you exactly think about the shows?

Not to mention, it’s not like all those “realistic movies/games” are all that realistic either, with the occasional special-effects failures, exaggerated CGI, and such.
 
Even the edgy violence in some movies end up looking kinda cartoonish, or unrealistic.

Movie and TV studios these day need to read and understand this quote from C.S. Lewis:

Realism is overrated.
 
But hey, if you think that draining a movie’s visuals of any sense of color, movement, and emotion makes it better because it’s more “real,” then yes, you are being real. Real stupid.
