I imagine bacteria wouldn’t produce a great deal of energy, especially if it wasn’t magically infused. We are explicitly told that the exchange is not equivalent, there’s a big energy loss in conversion. ie, to resurrect someone from mortal injuries would require the deaths of multiple magically active creatures.
 
I’m pretty sure livestock generally aren’t magically active either. That requires a degree of sentience and independent thought that has been thoroughly bred out of livestock.
 
Plus it wasn’t just the deer, it was Claudia herself who fueled that magic. It visably took a massive toll on her, and her hair turned white. This is a unfortunate drawback to dark magic in general, it takes a physical toll on it’s user.

But seriously, this finale gave you a bit of a “that’s it?” feeling. What happened to all the beings imprisoned by the MHC, are they all freed, both good and evil? Is magic going to be gone forever? Is someone going to manage to undo it, if it’s possible to do so?
 
If that happened, I think it would be fitting if it happened after a sizable timeskip.

The most interesting part of the story is thrown into the bin, so why should I bother?

The difference being that one of them involved the “heroine” committing mass genocide and making everything worse due to her short sighted decision making, before getting the boy of her dreams, a happy ending, and everything she ever wanted.

Nah, just found it amusing how we’ve had two finales featuring crazy blond royal ladies blowing shit up because ‘they’re the hero!’, justifying it on the fact that at least some of the people they’re screwing over deserved it.

Hekapoo is totally Jamie Lannister. Spent the entire show leapfrogging between hero and villain, was personally involved in a lot of reprehensible shit but at least always did it for reasons beyond petty sadism, got forgiven a lot for being attractive and easily shippable, didn’t so much as pick a side at the end as basically admit that she didn’t really give a damn about anyone, but at least went out on her own terms in full understanding that she was going to die.
 
The rest of the MHC was Cersei. Totally assured that they’re in control of the situation, right up to the point where the heroine pretty damn easily curbstomps all their resources in the field and kills them more or less by accident.

To the point that the original theatrical cut is no longer even legally available (most re-releases are just the director’s cut, which admittedly still isn’t very good but it got rid of the alien thing at least).
