Okay, question for any fans of the show: Are the gems genderless or not? Because I’ve seen several people try to tell me that there isn’t actually a lesbian relationship portrayed in the show because both characters are “genderless space rocks”; however, I constantly hear all the characters referred to by male and female pronouns, which seems pretty damn gendered to me.

barring the fact that we are close to making it so two women can actually sire a child unaided by sperm, Ivy is a fucking genetic genius, you think she couldn’t make a plant clone using her and Harley’s DNA?

The space rocks thing is a cop out for the most part, they are female presenting genderless holograms crated by sentient rocks, they are the same kind of discount lesbians as Asari,

So it’s just a cop-out so that they can justify the characters as not technically being lesbians if the network gets on their case. Got it.

They’re biologically ungendered(at their core, they’re robots), but they’re all clearly woman in form.

Pearl, who I don’t think has gendered herself but presents as pretty damn female, has mutual attraction with a human woman. And lesbian couples have been seen in the background.
 
Human/Human couples are somewhat rare because no one really cares that much about humans.
 
…personally all this political stuff doesn’t really interest me too much anyway. I like the relationship drama in Steven Universe, and find the discussion of their gender interesting only from a scientific standpoint.

It just seems dumb to me. If you wanna boast having a lesbian couple, go all the way with it. Don’t just cop out and do this halfway-there BS.
 
And also, how is “LGBT+ people exist” a political statement? That’s just truth.

I mean on the one hand yeah, on the other hand, Ruby and Sapphire kissed on screen years before Bubblegum and Marceline, but on the other hand, it’s retroactively patronizing now days,

Yes, Korra and Asami were the first crack in the wall holding back same sex rep in cartoons, and it also becomes somewhat insulting if it’s timing isn’t taken into account,

Question: Are there any LGBT+ couples or characters in kids’ cartoons that aren’t only revealed in the last season or last few episodes? It always feels like they wait until the show is almost over to drop this on the audience.
 
(And again, I’m not counting SU because of the whole “they’re genderless” thing.)

 
I found a weird Chinese She-Ra/Journey to the West crossover comic.

Also worth noting Korrasami has been very explicit in the comics kissing calling eachother girlfriends having the issues of homophobia explained by Aang and Katara’s Lesbian daughter and have conformed that Kyoshi liked men and women both, and shockingly people weren’t scared enough of her to drop the BS,
 
Loud house has the main character’s best friend’s dads, and one of his Sisters is dating another girl,
 
She-Ra has Bow’s Dads and Netossa and Spinnerella, and the newest member of the Cast Double Trouble is Non Binary, and an open declaration from the show runner to always assume her characters are gay unless stated otherwise,
 
the main character of Twelve Forever is clearly crushing on another girl, and two of the side characters are a gay couple,
 
And in shows for teens and up we have
 
Gen:LOCK has a Gender Fluid implied to be Bisexual character,
 
RWBY has Ilia Amitola who openly admitted to being in love with another woman and is confirmed to only like other women, It also has Coco Adel who was shown in the recent novel to be a lesbian, and a Lesbian Couple who were arc(HAHAHAHAHAHA!) Characters, and of Course there is Blake and Yang,
 
And in adult animation there is,
 
Hazbin Hotel has Angel Dust who is gay, Alistair who is Ace, and Charlie who was either Bi or Pan,
 
The Vampire series has Missi who is Bi, and i think Duke was pan,

Fair. But yeah, uh, I’m also pretty sure it’s hinted that Charlie and Vaggie are in a relationship.

Aang had a really hard lot when it came to his family, i wonder if he knew how little time he had, and if not would he have made different choices about his relationships with his kids?

Amy comes off as annoying, stalkerish and borderline creepy but it’s passed off as a joke and is fine and dandy because she’s a girl.
