What I find extremely funny is that for as much as people claim that the US is a “Christian nation,” so many of our traditions come from pagan ideals and deities.

I shoot back that our beloved Constitution and Bill of Rights has “FREEDOM OF RELIGION” basically stamped right at the very top, so they can just sit down and shut up.

Like, let’s look at the very days of the week. I’ve heard some Christians try to claim that the fact that there are seven days is a reference to the Bible, and is therefore proof that we live in a Christian nation; however, ignoring the fact that the book of Genesis also appears in the Jewish Bible, let’s not forget that nearly every one of the days are named after pagan deities.
 
-Tuesday came from Tyr’s Day, named after Tyr, the Norse god of single combat. Tyr is often equated with Ares/Mars.  
-Wednesday came from Woden’s Day. Woden = Odin.  
-Thursday came from Thor’s Day.  
-Friday came from Frija’s Day–Frija was the wife of Odin and the goddess of wisdom.  
-Saturday came from Saturn Day, with Saturn of course being the Roman name for Greek titan Cronos.
 
The only two that aren’t named after deities are Sunday and Monday, named after the Sun and Moon. Though let’s be real, most pagan societies had Sun and Moon deities anyway.

Same with Spain, whose days are named after celestial bodies (who share names with gods).
 
Lunes (moon) Martes (Mars) Miercoles (Mercury) Jueves (Jupiter) Viernes (Venus).
 
Unlike moslem countries who uses:  
Ahad (one) Sunday  
Ithneen (two) Monday  
Tsalatsa (three) Tuesday  
Arba’a (four) Wednesday  
Khamsa (five) Thursdsy  
Jumaa (assembly) Friday, day of obligatory congregational prayer  
Saba’ah (seven) Saturday.
 
In turkish and persian, is also the same. Saturday is shambeh (seven)  
Sunday is yekshambeh  
Monday is duoshambeh  
…  
You just add an ordinal number to saturday so basically monday is “second day after saturday”
 
They wasn’t very romantic with their days of the week.

The Muslim date naming reminds me of how a lot of Quakers refer to dates: “First day, second day, etc.”

The US has become even less religious over the last decade than previously anticipated
 
A few years back, it was predicted that by this point in time, the share of Christians in the US would be down to around 70%. It is now at 65%, and falling.

Since I last posted in here, I have researched descriptions of Hell in the Bible that get lost in translation, and they are so nasty.

It’s described as a dumping ground for garbage, sewage, the bodies of infected corpses, and the bodies of thieves. (probably, this was just the nasty thing that Jesus could think of at the time to describe, and it’s actually much nastier.)

Well, it’s arabs who first invented numbers, it’s logical they use them instead, and I think it makes sense, instead of giving a /name/ to literally everything, based on gods/beliefs. It’s surprising.
 
I’ve always been interested to learn more about Islam, despite being atheist.

Story time: This is narrated through Aisha’s perspective.  
Muhammad was sitting under a tree and was woken up by the voices of children. It was an ethiopian woman singing and dancing, with children playing around her, the show was already attracting some crowd. Muhammad then called Aisha “hey, come and see this” but Aisha was kinda short so Muhammad gave her a piggy back so she could see.

I haven’t been doing a good job at being a buddhist, but that’s coming from people who only know but don’t practice it.

We’ve been receiving complaints that people are being “bashed” in this thread for being Christians.
 
But looking through the last few pages of this thread - going back 3 months in the posts - I don’t see any evidence of anyone being “bashed” in any way, regardless of the religion they are.
 
The conversation here appears to be very polite and considerate and people of many religions are here and discussing topics from Lilith to Jinn.
 
So - does anyone here feel that they themselves or others on the site are being discriminated against or “bashed” because of their Christian religion, or that any other rules are being broken here in this thread or on other images or threads because of people’s religion?

Yeah, I haven’t seen any bashing at all.
 
And just to make it clear if anyone was confused, I personally don’t discriminate against people based on their religion. I do discriminate based on how hateful they are, or how much they try to force their beliefs upon others.
