Actually, from what I’ve heard, 4Kids WANTED to use Live &Learn, but they didn’t realize until it was too late that they would have needed to pay for a separate license due to the song technically not being owned by Sega (licensing can be… complicated).

That one was interesting because 4Kids didn’t even want to dub that, but it was a package deal with Shaman King, so they were basically stuck until their license ran out.

Yeah, but honestly most of the stuff cut out is things like a brief shot of a character standing around doing nothing. Now cutting more major stuff is understandable.
 
It was a li’l cringey they tried to censor the fact Maria died, even though the game made it clear she did. They apparently also tried to censor other deaths too.  
But meanwhile Cosmo’s death was still left in, I guess ‘cause said character wasn’t human.

I remember how most of the S3 episodes were edited weirdly like how the last episode 4kids edited the entire episode’s structure where on the jpn version it started after the fight.

Regardless of the editing, the original TMS show still did odd controversial things, like replace Amy’s role during the SA2 adaptation episode arc, with Chris, and such. Or have a bunch of “Sonic only appears briefly to battle the robot of the week” episodes in a row. Replacing Tails’ airplane with a generic badass anime over-the-top aircraft.  
Or ignoring the fact Tails & Cream can fly in general. (Tails didn’t use his helitail until the SA adaptation, and Cteam only flew once when she attacked Emryl.)

They basically just didn’t mention it, and stated she was captured, but that one old, retired, PTS-ridden, former-GUN soldier guy was still left in making it a bit confusing on whether he killed her or not.

i’m surprised stuff like possessed Amy made it into the dub version.

I kind of felt like they still pretty heavily implied that he killed her, just without directly saying so.

It also had an extremely low animation budget, and IT SHOWS.

The artwork was good though, and sometimes the animation was good for TV anime standards. The action scenes were much better animated then the dialogue scenes, which is pretty common with TV anime. (Supposedly, it’s to give them a comic/manga-ish look, so it’s supposedly intentional.)

4Kids occasionally let worse slip by.  
The 2003 TMNT cartoon actually got away with beheading the Shredder, just like the original comic book. Though, it was kinda censored by his head being in his helmet still, and the ending clearly shows him surviving standing up, picking up his head, and walking off in a very creepy way. …This is because it’s later revealed, he’s not human.
 
Granted, the TMNT 2003 show didn’t have as much input/censorship/say-so from 4Kids, though 4Kids TV did manage to ban an entire episode “Insane in the Membrane” for being too dark/gruesome.

Why did Sega never try to make Sonic Youth do a Sonic soundtrack?

They’ve never had a promotion with the Sonic restaurant either. You’d think that would be perfect.

That’d be hilarious if they did that for the upcoming movie, (Sonic Drive-In even sells chili dogs, Sonic’s trademark fav’ food) but it’s more likely they’ll go with a more common fast-food place like McDonald’s, or Burger King to help promote the movie.  
(Sonic Drive-In, I’m pretty sure isn’t even in every American state.)
 
Most recent promotion they did was Carl’s Jr./Hardees doing kid’s meals with “Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice” based toys. My nephew even has one.

They did cut/change major stuff though. Mainly in Season 3 (ironic since they commissioned it in the first place).
 
For one, the last episode was completely reorganized in the 4Kids version. Secondly, they cut out a lot of dialogue between Tails, Eggman, and Cosmo in the second to last episode along with entire scenes of the entire cast, just to hide the fact that Cosmo would die.
 
And that’s not to mention the fact that they butchered Molly’ death.

Japanese version isn’t perfect. Heck, its not great. But at least it’s more enjoyable than the 4Kids version. At least I can say the Japanese version treated it’s viewers with respect.

Regardless, I honestly prefer dubs over subs. (Subtitles are kinda distracting for me.) Some changes are understandable, like Rouge the bat’s joking remark on S&M wasn’t exactly subtle, and no way they could get away with even mentioning it over here in a kid show.
 
I am curious what SX would’ve been like if another company dubbed it. The Sonic the Hedgehog OVA english dub actually left in the lewd stuff uncensored. lol (Only things changed I recall was calling Eggman “Robotnik,” and Eggmanland “Robotropolis” as a nod to the original cartoon, and such. They also mistakenly called Knuckles a “mole,” but I hear that was in the Japanese version too.)

I mean, they might be understandable for a kid, but the original Sonic X wasn’t exactly made with small children in mind I’d imagine, moreso teens and young adults.  
A lot of the dialogue in the later episodes I can see people saying too inappropriate for young children, and 4kids just takes those shows and makes them for younger kids, when that honestly ruins the tone and setting of the show. I’m sure a lot of people are familiar with their infamous One Piece dub, which was nothing like the original japanese, which was definitely not for kids.

On a somewhat related note: the two One Piece dubs is one situation where FUNimation is the lesser of two evils.
