It’s why I said people who know and love Star Wars. RJ clearly didn’t care for Star Wars, honestly RJ isn’t bad he’s just a pretentious writer who isn’t as clever as he thinks he is. Not even close
 
Basically, if you get people who are passionate about Star Wars you get good shit like the Mandalorian. If you’re not even trying to look for that and just looking for whoever’s “hot” at the moment, you get the mess that is the Last Jedi.

I didn’t think RLJ of the new trilogy is amess.
 
Infact I think the people who legitimately like the sequel trilogy are a minority on this website (And most of the internet)

TLJ isn’t a bad movie, what I meant to say is that it wasn’t as clever as RJ thinks it is. Really, the one thing that I think dragged the whole movie down was the whole side arc with Poe and Finn

I remember that being a big criticism of the movie in the NC review, one that I think most people agree was a bad move, especially when it interrupted the good parts.

Doesn’t help that it lead to nothing. With a better writer, their failure to get help would be impactful and more than just the first grey character in the movies.

They should have stayed on the ship, it could’ve been like Das Boot. Everyone is tense and nervous, and morale is at an all time low as they struggle just to keep their doomed ship running

But a factor of Star Wars is about going to cool and/or exotic locations so they couldn’t just stay on the ship the whole movie they need to go to a casino planet and show how rich assholes spend their time while the fate of the Galaxy is fought over tension be damned!

Or include her in and have her be a villain, maybe they even put her on trial for incompetence. I understand why RJ put her in, to subvert expectations cause we think she’s the typical arrogant officer who’s more of a bureaucrat than a soldier…but just cause I understand the motive doesn’t mean I approve of it. There’s a reason why that trope exists, it adds conflict. Take it out and you just have a mess
