It has been a thing for quite awhile. Even the Greece got into it when they made half-humans of animals.

I dreamt that the Nostalgia Critic was reviewing a Spiderwick Chronicles remake with the opening joke being a line from the original making fun of a director who turns out to be chosen for the remake.

Except he said inanimate objects. Animals aren’t inanimate objects… Though there is the story of Pygmalion, where a guy makes a female statue, falls in love with it, then (I believe Aphrodite) brings it to life and he can marries it and they have kids.

I know they actually managed to fit all 5 books into the movie (although admittedly all the books were rather short, so that probably wasn’t too hard).

I don’t remember. I had the book of the monsters, though I don’t know where it went. I do remember the books having a scene where I think the ogre massacred a bunch of goblins that disappointed him.

I mean if they don’t reproduce sexually, than having sexes is pretty pointless.

That’s been retconned over and over right up until the end of original IDE universe that femmes were natural to Cybertron but at some point became dazed out and even then there were some that preferred to be a “she”.
 

 

 
As for sexual reproduction that’s not really been something that’s been dived into probably because Hasbro doesn’t want to bring up sex in their franchise even if it is one that isn’t totally kid centric.  
But there is a precedent for human Transformers cross breeding so that they might be able to do it themselves but that would be something more likely to be fanon than canon.
 
Although back in the old IDW universe Scorponok did try to find a way.
