Capability wise, the Saudis would loss a war with Iran.
 
Despite having a slight tech advantage, their military capacity is minuscule vs Iran. Plus SA is more equipped for a defensive war.
 
They also know that an out and out war with Iran would drag in other players that want a piece of SA. And they dont believe they can rely on the US to intervene. Nor should we.
