If people don’t oppose it or challenge it and the courts (for whatever reason) decide that those actions are allowable… it might. The decision to charge him like that is in direct violation of the first amendment, and anyone who cares about the ability of the press to report on almost anything of actual significance should be concerned and fighting it. It’s absolutely a frightening move by an increasingly deranged, authoritarian leaning administration and needs to be opposed, regardless of what your opinion on Assange may be.
 
But bear in mind, there have been challenges like this before that did not end up succeeding, so Trump getting his way on this is not a guarantee by any means.

May has announced her resignation as leader of the Tories for June 7th, but she’ll still be PM until a new leader is chosen.

Well, this ought to be good. Honestly, what I’m most surprised by is that Trump is just doing this now, if he’s always had the power. Is it because Barr’s only been appointed recently and Sessions wouldn’t have gone along with it?

Basically. Much as I very much disliked Sessions, he at the very least occasionally treated the position of Attorney General like it actually had some responsibilities and commitments to the laws of this country. Whereas Barr has apparently decided his role is defending Trump and using the justice department as a club to attack whatever “enemies” Donald wants to go after.

A single Republican congressman has blocked a bipartisan disaster aid bill. Infuriating Democrats and scaring vulnerable Republicans.

I do wonder what words of “”“wisdom””” Trump is going to give her during his state visit just before she leaves.

If Nazis paint everybody as a Nazi it confuses the apolitical and apathetic and destroys honest political discourse. If they gaslight and turn the word “Nazi” or “fascist” into just meaningless buzzwords, it suddenly becomes really hard to criticize people for sporting that ideology.
 
Then you get the majority of enlightened centrists saying “well, the left calls the right nazis, the right calls the left nazis, I think both sides are just simply dum dums.”

The irony is: the Nazis uses the exact same rhetoric before WW2. They thought the white (German Caucasian) was going extinct due to the Jews. As well as other factors such as structural unemployment.

I think what disheartens me most about that are the people talking about leaving this country. I mean, I know I can’t really relate to how hard it must be on them to live here with that (I loathe Donald entirely, but I’m the farthest thing away from the kind of people his idiotic policies usually discriminate against), but at the same time, I really want them to stay because it’s a fight that needs them here to help wage it. Leaving just makes the position of the people doing this stronger, and for the sake of those who don’t have running as an option, and for the sake of all those who will someday need us to have fought this, I really want them to stay and stand against everything going on here.
