I know this is a sarcasm but I’m still mad, especially when the article literally brought up the fact that they had to lower the standards slightly in order to fill in the numbers.

I’m not mad at the "lack of standards" remark. I’m mad because you clearly didn’t read it, like an ultracrepidarian.

There’s also the fact that cops are increasingly more and more weary of the public and media portraying them as power-hungry racists and/or tyrants who do nothing but abuse poor people and persons of color.

Of course the cops and a lot of cop apologists will say that they’re trying to stop crime and other illegal activity. The fact that many of the perps are poor and persons of color are just a coincidence.

Don’t blame the media for thinking the public has a right to know when the suspect who died "resisting arrest" did so while lying unarmed on the ground with their hands behind their head. Or for thinking that it might be worth reporting just how often those little "oops, I shot a completely and obviously unarmed minority" mishaps happen.

". This planet has so much room for more people it’s ridiculous."
And hell it is! We feel like we are overpopulated by living in big cities, which are overpopulated. We are told to fear for the resources, we would need two earths, but on the resources, especially food, it’s all about

– reducing the necessities for transportation
– bring back local production to save energy
– avoid waste, since 3/4 of the production today ends in the dumpster.

just 50 years ago it was 1/4. on the beginning of the 20th century and during the world wars, there was almost zero waste. We can totally sustain mankind, expand to rural areas again. I live in a town, Biefmorin, in the middle of french countryside, there’s more houses left, most falling in ruins, because since fifty years or more people are moving to crowded cities. There’s land, there’s everything you need for any place to sustain itself. That’s the reality.

Yesterday again I chatted with a neighbor, who also used to work for years in Paris, and he’s glad he’s back in the region "I work in my home, lots of DIY, I’m not longer depressed, I can breathe again!"

So yeah when you travel, even in Europe, 90% of the time you travel for kilometers across woods, plains, and it’s anywhere. So yes there’s room. Yes, there’s ways to cultivate and use somewhat desertic areas. We’re not going to decide to castrate everyone to make sure to reduce a made up overpopulation. It’s not a Greta Thunberg who’s gonna bring any solution with biased views and non-scientific ideas, but surfing on the green guilt, the idea that we, European and Americans are guilty of murdering the planet

Population isn’t the problem. The problem is how we distribute resources today and how the economy is ran: on speculation, mass production and globalization which puts a regional farmer in competition with like, a Moroccan or Venezuelan exporter who will provide tomatoes, supposedly for cheap. This is a complete absurdity and this is why rural areas are being emptied, populated by remaining old people, and a few others who had enough of living in huge cities.

Who really want to change the world? Everyone of my generation will say "YES WE SHOULD DO THAT" one minute later they hurry to buy themselves a McDonalds, because it’s cool, and later rush to buy their yearly iPhone to stay in the trend.

So basically the TV bashes you both with virtue signaling / propaganda on the climate, makes you guilty and is the cause of your depression thinking the world is finished, also sells you cars, phones, and junk food certified 100% organic, imported from the other side of the planet. As soon you start hating corporation and demand change, the media and all the most unscrupulous, corrupted megacorporations just need to make one thing to get everything forgiven:

We live in a clown world.

Exponential growth is a thing. Look up the parable of the ants in the coke bottle, that is where the main thrust of the over-population issue is coming from.

If population growth was linear, it wouldn’t be as much a problem. But it’s not.

And as technology advances, we continue to surmount the natural checks on population.

It may not be a problem now, but it will be. That is very much certain.

Lots of developed countries are facing reduced birth rates which, honestly, can’t be increased
China, Singapore, Japan, Germany, America

Japan is literally having a decreased population rate
Once the world gets developed enough, the population will decrease, then more or less plateau

@patachu
You do realise it is COMPANIES who do majority of the pollution and waste, right ?

Individual action literally does fucking nothing

"I work in my home, lots of DIY, I’m not longer depressed, I can breathe again!"

Wow that resonates with me. Tots agreed.

In the United States, you drive out of a city and you keep seeing more city and more suburbs and then city again and more suburbs … the cities in the US are spread out like someone dropped a jar from space and it exploded all across the landscape.

In someplace like Japan or France or England, when you hit the city’s edge BANG there’s fields and forests and open farmland and areas of wilderness as far as the eye can see. You can literally walk from a high-rise to a one family farm still using cattle and horses to plow in an hour.

It’s easy in the US to get the impression that we’re running out of land. It’s really hard to get the same impression in other first world countries.

So basically the TV bashes you both with virtue signaling / propaganda on the climate, makes you guilty and is the cause of your depression thinking the world is finished, also sells you cars, phones, and junk food certified 100% organic, imported from the other side of the planet. Well, we’re going to just have to agree to disagree about that. What you consider virtue signaling and propaganda I and a lot of others see as fights against existential threats to ourselves or our families, and we’re tired of people pushing their own personal religious views on the rest of us through laws that should never ever exist in a secular society.

I don’t care who people think wrote the bible or how they feel about their gods and other imaginary friends.

Religion should never ever be used in place of science. Ever. And religion has no place in our laws. That’s in the constitution, and I’m a fan of the constitution.

Yep, it’s not just Japan, that’s the problem. I’d be totally for the idea to have children myself, except we have no idea where we are going yet.
We need hope to fund a family, but everything is made to destroy hopes and fear the future.

@Derpy Whooves
Yep, especially the US, there’s a LOT of land, also a LOT of real desert that just wait to be irrigated and cultivated.

It’s just a more sane lifestyle by all means. Myself in the 90’s I was eager to leave this shithole, to end up in a big city, but renting a shitty apartment, having no savings, and now, working mostly online and moving from times to times. The big question as a whole is, now with all the communication technology we have, the net everywhere, everything can be decentralized again. Or could be.

That’s what I’m banking on. Because if growth goes fully exponential, we best start looking real close at Mars.

It’s worth noting that as well as with Commune pointing out the declining birth rates of highly societies – Japan, Singapore, China, etc – that as well: the western world is more or less at a stagnant or mildly declining rate. For the large part the population boom is in Africa or lesser developed parts of the world, which is more a reflection of the economic status of those countries and the sort of equal protections or empowerment people don’t have access to that """the west""" or developed countries have access to. In America and Europe a lot of it comes down to education and economic opportunities for women that has shifted cultural norms to seeking personal fulfillment other than the family. While in Japan declining birth-rates are a result of the economic depression Japan is technically still in since the 1990’s, people there are working just too much to support themselves let alone a family; even with the government stepping in to try and curb excessive over time, the Japanese work a lot. China’s has been declining because the One Child Policy effectively clipped the birth rate needed for anything more than simple replacement: two children per couple for a steady unchanging population.

But as stated earlier, for simple commodities like food we have more than enough for everyone. Last I checked the amount of food we produce is double than what we need for the population. It’s just how the food gets to where it’s needed and what happens after that effects just how much it actually does. In the case of Africa and the under-developed world food waste comes into effect because of the inability to effectively store it, they don’t have refrigeration. Americans just like to throw it out at the kitchen, although there’s a lot to do with us throwing it out at the very starting point of production because it doesn’t meet our image of food standards ; not that it’s in-edible.

[Another source on the above, with a smattering of links for further reading within.]

Western – or American – waste comes as a result of our marketing culture vs Third World inequalities in simple technology to keep it, as well as not having developed the material and social equalities to effect a cultural shift all together.

It could be argued from the question of food waste alone that addressing the compounding elements of capitalist marketability of the "ideal product" and improving the third world’s ability to keep and hold onto food so it doesn’t go to waste so fast would have the effect of fully realizing the potential of feeding double the population, and cutting back on farm subsidies to discourage over-farming, which would encourage of force farmers to stop using up their land and roll back agricultural use of our land and water resources at least. If wilderness and re-wilding is what we need, then all that unused land can be returned to nature. You could use it for development, but as I talked about before we hardly need more homes.

But even in the case of housing and urban planning, and planning our urban-wilderness spaces that can be deflected and moved to a whole other field of discussion now opened up by the above implications: we’re at the stage and by doing the above may have the power for radical redesign of the space we use. We may have to bulldoze entire cities in America to go about the radical urban design of the likes of La Cabousier, but if Africa is the locust of current new growth and with cities like Lagos being some of the fastest growing and expanding cities in the world they might even realize the ideas of La Cabousier or any other urban utopian idealist to better balance their use of space.

To frankly fret about population growing, and to pretend that we need to cut population too, or find a whole other planet feeds into the Malthusian Myth that should have been dead for over a century. All the material for accompanying the existing population is present here in the world. It’s just not being used right. Nothing is more so symbolic of the silly waste of space than pencil towers as well.

He’s right to do this trade war, since China is the one doing it, but not playing the rules. Burning coal, having shitty pay, all the joys of a communist regime at the service of globalism. So yeah the only way to wage this war is to promote stuff made in the US in your case, made in France, or in Europe in my case.

We are all in this war, may we like it or not.

No, he’s wrong to do this trade war alone, because as big as the US economy is, we cannot exert the kind of pressure on China to make lasting changes.

If Trump hadn’t alienated all of our allies, and disrupted our traditional trading partners, we could have struck China internationally with a few more allied economies.

Instead, we’ll get a few nominal concessions out of China and nothing will change. China is already shifting production to other markets, and stregnthing their internal economy.

WHY

Because for them, homophobia is a sign of good morals?

Anyway, I actually read the police decline article this time, and it seems that the issues are both a lot of officers both new and old quitting and a disinclination by anyone other than white males to join. Which means there will always be jobs waiting for officers fired from other forces, and that the police will become even more of a white male club. Yay.

Nothing, but the police force should have a little more diversity since their purpose in life is to police an increasingly diverse population.

People react better to a police force that reflections the local population, there is a lot of sociological research on the matter.
