I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say Peet is right about one thing: Batman & Robin wasn’t the worst 90’s Batman movie.
Granted, she’d probably call me an edgelord for hating Batman Forever and then get back to work on her next ‘Tyrant Nightmare Moon is better than low energy Celestia’ video. Because only an edgelord would prefer Batman Returns over Forever. It’s kinda strange seeing somebody with such a professed love of Narm, corny World of Warcraft plots and Kingdom Hearts also main as a Death Knight and argue Aang’s energy bending was a cop-out from his moral dilemma.
Otherwise, the video isn’t much in the way of drama. MLP villains have grown stale. Friendship as a vague concept has become the go-to solution instead of the practical benefits being used to demonstrate the error in someone’s way. Stygius was a weak villain, and it would have been so much more daring if Starlight’s faith in forgiveness was misplaced, and have Twilight stand up for her because Starswirl is a jerk and Friendship takes a leap of faith, and Starlight was at least brave enough to follow the example set by Twilight. In fact, I just feel that Stygius undermined Tempest severely by oversaturating the number of redeemed villains du jour.
I’m not sure Gloriosa was much better though. She at least had a motivation, but the ‘it’s not your fault’ excuse was nonsense. Gloriosa knew full well what she was doing, and the movie tried too hard to have her redemption echo Twilight’s from Friendship Games. But the execution wasn’t fundamentally flawed at least. Timber Spruce is a creepy pedo though.
