Ah. The only problem is both companies have different methods. For example, I was in Japan when Silas Breakdown was released, and despite being bigger than Lio Convoy/ Thundertron they were still roughly the same price. Meanwhile, if I remember right Hasbro calculates price based on the amount of plastic used in a figure, so Breakdown (using quite a lot more plastic) didn’t fall within the Voyager range.
It was the same case with the Jet Vehicons. Despite using more plastic thanks to the wings, they were sold in the same sized box as the regular Vehicons (which wouldn’t have been possible using the blister pack method Hasbro used for their Vehicons.
Even when it came to making a new Blast-Off mold, the article mentioned that since G1 Blast-Off was a shuttle, following Hasbro’s lead (i.e. repaint of Slingshot) would likely have soured Japanese fans from buying the Combaticons set. So while it was expensive to create the shuttle Blast-Off, Takara judged it would be worth it.
