Video Game General

I want to get Axiom Verge on the Switch, but since it’s a Metroid-vania type game, I’m worried that I’m going to go through the same experience I went through with Symphony of the Night: exploring and uncovering the map, fighting all the bosses as I go through, and then hitting a point where I’ve exhausted every unexplored path I can think of, and then just wander around like a dumbass wondering where the hell I’m supposed to go (unless it’s like Metroid: Zero Mission, which basically tells you where to go next on the map).

I agree, all games should be playable on all systems. And Nintendo should especially port all of their games to Steam.

It would save me 300-400 bucks on getting a new system and I could spend money to purchase their games. No downsides.

It gives people reason to buy one console over another. I think having every game on every platform would be nice but I can’t deny it’s a smart business decision. Also, some companies, especially Nintendo are very protective of their IPs and having Zelda or Mario on PC or PS4 is wishful thinking.

I wasn’t aiming anywhere in particular.
I have almost every console this gen, still I look that pile and can’t help but feel it’s unnecessary in the grand scheme of things.

If every game was on every system, than what would the point of multiple systems be? There would only be one gaming system, and it would have a monopoly in the gaming market.

Competition is good, and kind of necessary.

@Mikey
In the short term in it is, but I think in the long term doing away with exclusives is more beneficial to both the consumer and the industry as a whole.

What long term benefit is there to locking away content outside of being “brand loyal” and creating an artificial non-war between companies? I haven’t exactly worked out the kinks of my little idea, but I can’t imagine the spirit of competition is going to fade away due their products being more readily and easily available.

You’re missing the point and viewing it through the lens of the current “system” as it were. Being a publisher instead of a hardware developer isn’t going to nuke the competition from existence, just change it to better fit the model.

I admit, this is almost idealistic of me. But again I can’t help but feel it would be more beneficial to industry and consumer.
