Slavery was not “THE” cause. That notion was what was presented to Europe as the reason for the rebellion so that Europe would help the North rather than the South. The original reason was because Northern corporations had bought Lincoln’s election and had not even put his name on the ballot for the Southern states that ended up founding the Confederacy. Hell, until the Emancipation Proclamation, which was given well into the war, Northern states still had a lot of slaves. But they didn’t need them as much as the Southern states did because they indentured people into near-slave labor for their textile mills and similar factories regardless of race.

There’s no real argument. Slavery was THE cause, with everything else being related to it (ie, state’s rights…to preserve slavery) or a sidenote. Second, it is true that the south wasn’t one solid pro-slavery block, with the rebels having to fight not just the north but also those who stayed loyal to the USA, but the Confederacy was defined by their stance on slavery. It was their cornerstone, as outlined in the aptly named Cornerstone speech.

Yes, but, and I really don’t want to get into the argument, slavery wasn’t the only cause nor was the entire Confederacy ‘pro-slavery’ to such an extent. There were plenty of good people down south.

In the first place, what does that pic have to do with the Umbrum being locked away? This occurs much later and only Sombra is involved.
