What upsets me is that Starlight in the premier is able to do this spell better than Celestia!

Of course. She needs to minimize casualties, so she has to keep wounding the Crystal Ponies to a minimum so they can overcome Sombra’s brainwashing and join Celestia’s side in overthrowing him.

If only they would have given her armour it would have made this scene even better.

well, considering that she knows the warriors are cristal ponies brainwashed, and she needs them to defeat sombra, it would mean she has to keep the enemy casualties at low

Celestia takes to the battlefield to see her wounded troops, gets ambushed by four of the Crystal Ponies, and simply shoves them away? They should’ve not even tried to ambush her anyhow. She’s the Solar Sovereign of Equestria, and she will do what she must to protect her troops, her people, and herself during wartime.

Actually Starlight didn’t teleport, she basically made a big flash to blind everyone so she could run away (we see footprints leading deeper into the cave).
