The problem with the Friendship Games movie wasn’t that the characters weren’t ridiculous enough. The problem with FG was that its entire premise, all of its music except maybe 1 track, and story / pacing were absolutely stupid, horrid, and boring.
 
In summary: A simple sports event between two high schools (that somehow has UNIFORMED MOTOCROSS) goes awry when a completely ordinary nerd “accidentally” absorbs all the friendship magic from everybody and turns Evil Super Saiyan due to herself and every other character being mind-numbingly stupid and clueless.
 
(Rainbow Dash, who is aware of the magic absorption, casually walks right up to her in full rainbow form and gets absorbed… idiot characters lmfao)

Considering Larson is the primary source of everything bad about the show in seasons 3-5…

Even if you personally don’t like “Too Many Pinkie Pies”, “Keep Calm and Flutter On”, “Rarity Takes Manehattan”, “Twilight Time”, “For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils”, and “Equestria Games”, they were generally well-received by most of the fandom. But hey, at least you have the choice of not watching season 6, since it’s a foregone conclusion you’re going to hate it.

Trust me, it genuinely would have been much better if she had been a mad scientist of some sort. The story wouldn’t have been as contrived, either. See the movie, and you’ll understand.

From what little I’ve seen of the movie (I still haven’t seen the full thing yet, but I’ve seen various bits and pieces of it), I’m actually glad that SciTwi wasn’t a villainous mad scientist. Mainly because we’ve had that way too much in fanfics and fanart already.

I still maintain that, in terms of on-screen villainy, EqG1!Sunset and Principal Cinch are parallel characters. They were both generic villains with no real depth.
 
Sunset at least had the saving grace of having excellent villainous potential. Her backstory sets her up to be a really serious and personal enemy for Twi, but on-screen, we got a generic alpha bitch instead. I still hold a torch for the villain that Sunset could have been.
 
Cinch was much worse, though. Generic on-screen villainy, no interesting backstory, and I can sum her up in one sentence:
 
“It doesn’t matter if we win, but it matters if we win.”
 
What you said about Twi, though… not just Cinch, but it feels like the entire movie was designed to allow Twi to come out smelling like roses even though she was on the side opposing the main characters.
 
“She doesn’t really want to compete against CHS, the mean ol’ Principal is forcing her to! (For… some reason)”
 
“She doesn’t actually want to go around draining magic left and right, her magic draining device is just going haywire! (For… some reason)”
 
“She didn’t actually want to be a monster who ripped holes in dimensions, her classmates and Principal goaded her into releasing the magic and it drove her crazy! (Because… bad guys?)”
 
It’s like they were scared of having a version of Twi be genuinely villainous. If SciTwi had done this stuff all on her own and on purpose, I think the movie would have been much more interesting.

Others have great, good, average, bad and atrocious episodes. (They are never stable enough)  
Look, I love our writer team, I just wish they push themselfs a little (a lot) harder.

You’re a glass-half-empty kinda guy, aren’t you? Just ignore any well-liked episodes by Dave Polsky and Joanna Lewis & Kristine Songco, ignore anything written by Cindy Morrow, Josh Haber, Meghan McCarthy, Noelle Benvenuti, and any other returning or possibly-returning writers, ignore that the writer of S4’s underwhelming “Somepony to Watch Over Me” and “Trade Ya!” came back to co-write “The Cutie Map” and write “Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?”.
 
I’ll admit that with the departures of Amy Keating Rogers and M. A. Larson, I’ve gone from solidly optimistic about S6 to moderately concerned, but I think it’s premature to fall all the way to bitter despair.

This pretty much nails it. I can buy Starlight Glimmer’s backstory if Sunburst was the last straw after losing all her other friends once they got cutie marks, but as presented in the show it looks like losing him was the sole thing that turned her from a happy filly to a budding revolutionary extremist. I’m happy that the Main 7 and the Friendly Four forgave her and accepted her as a friend, but having that happen in the closing musical number shortchanges what should have been key scenes in her heel/face turn and drains much of the emotional resonance from the story. I don’t think the episodes were bad, just disappointing.

I’m still looking forward to the new season but I am deeply saddened as Larson is the very one who breathed life into Minuette as she is one of my most favorite characters of all.

Cry some more, why don’t you? Josh Haber didn’t cut the Homesick Shimmer sidestory out of Friendship Games. He wrote it in the first place! He cut it at Hasbro’s request, and it had zilch to do with toy sales. Ishi Rudell admitted in an interview that it was because there was too much going on with Sunset being homesick on top of the titular Friendship Games and the bait and switch plot regarding Twilight’s discovery of magic.
 
Josh Haber also wrote The Cutie Map and The Cutie Re-Mark, and Season 5 is currently the fandom’s most popular season so he must be doing something right. I fail to see where you can possibly believe he treats the show like The Simpsons considering he’s written at least 3 major plot points so far.
 
Ishi Rudell pointed out (by praising the decision to do so) that Hasbro didn’t have to even release the cut content. You’re whining about something you’re lucky to know about at all. This isn’t about Josh Haber not understanding this community (which is not, by the way, his job, as we are still a periphery demographic).
 
And I both like Sunset Shimmer and Equestria Girls. But your rant here is way uncalled for. You make Josh out like he’s as awful as IDW, and that’s just not the case.

WTF, so we lost Larson and Amy but we still have the guys who wrote Appaloosa most wanted, princess Spike, Hoffields and McColts and what about discord. This is the worst episodes, worst writers and we still have this suckers instead of the good ones. Without Aaron and Amy I just don’t know who left good. I already can tell what season 6 will be like.

Well, it is unfortunate that Larson won’t be back this season, but on the other hand this will give the newer writers more experience, which can only lead to better stories.

That’s pretty much the biggest failure of the episode. Most of its runtime is spent on alternate timelines that, while really interesting to see and leave so much room for further exploration, are ultimately completely irrelevant to the actual conflict. Starlight has no real time to be developed beyond what she already is, the resolution comes off rushed as all hell, and all those neat alternate equestrias are pointless because the show will never get back to them anyway.

Ah, I confused it. Well, it’s not a letdown, but it have same problems as Doctor Who: most time is spent for watching pretty scenes or running away from random natives, and less time for an actual plot.
