In the episode though Celestia and Luna say “The birth of an Alicorn is something Equestria has never seen, it is beyond even our understanding.” I thought that implied enough. Guess not.

Luna’s and Celestia’s breeds upon birth weren’t directly referenced, unlike Twilight in E13 and Cadance in Berrow’s book. Both have been said to have been born alicorns as well in the Sisters’ Journal.

Didn’t we technically learn some alicorn lore when Cadence made it clear that none of them are born alicorns? That alicorn wings are earned by some kind of grand princessly deed, and that flurry heart is the first born alicorn they’ve seen?

All that knowledge in magic, all those years of fighting evil amounted to a laser beam into some clouds Rainbow Dash could have made child’s play with. This after her niece was capable of holding off a force of pure evil the size of a storm that pounded mercilessly on her shield for days, even weeks on end while still ruling her kingdom and seeing to Twilight arrival to help anyway she could.
 
Again, USELESS. Don’t even kid yourself, Celestia could have been taken out of the story and NOTHING would have change. At least Luna has done stuff throughout the series.
