Not only that, but they’re often so shallow that they don’t even scab over properly. So your nerve endings are left wide open to wind, water and everything else.

I remember reading somewhere that when it comes to larger injuries, say, an actual cut that might need a bandaid, your body releases pain blockers after a while because it assumes you’ve really noticed it. Because paper cuts are so minor, your body decides they don’t warrant the pain blocker response because that juice doesn’t grow on trees, so you’re left suffering the full inconvenient pain until it’s actually healed.
If we didn’t know an area was damaged, we might keep damaging it without noticing. The better question is, does pain really need to feel like that?
Indeed. Why were we created with so many nerves, anyway? Do we really need a nerve on every single square inch of our bodies?
