A little different though. They aren’t implying anything about Scootaloo: She currently can’t fly, but the future is not set in stone.  
The status of AJ’s parents requires only discussion or a flashback to confirm.  
Scootaloo’s flight or lack thereof depends on how she grows, which would require some kind of magic or flash forward to confirm in the present.

I really hope not. AJ’s parents are practically confirmed dead. It was implied twice… Scootaloo is still waiting. Hopefully there will be an episode where perseverance leads to success instead of labeling her as a handicapped girl.

idk about the parents one, considering applejack’s quote when apple bloom got her cutie mark. “if mom and dad were here” is just about a close to confirmation as you can get when you’re a kid’s show and you need to tread subjects like that lightly, at least in my opinion. plus, something’s telling me the upcoming applejack episode about the mysterious hospital incident might involve her parents somehow, although realistically i’d say the chances of that are at the very least below 50%. but i dunno really, i’m just thinking out loud silently on the internet.

“Scootaloo can’t fly” is in the same status as “AJ’s parents are dead.” It’s not confirmed and probably will never be (because it’d be too much of a downer), but that won’t stop the writers from implying the hell out of it.

uhhh I hope they stop doing this “sad wing wiggle” thing and have her fly… it would be a very heartwarming episode.

That was what that ep was all about.
 
And I thought that ep made it clear they weren’t gonna focus on it, but here we are.

This episode was fantastic for Scootaloo’s character development, they might not be able to address the whole ‘crippled/disabled’ thing but I think this is the first time they hinted at it (although they might have done in in Flight to the Finish)
