Hm. I definitely see both Hufflepuff and Gryffindor in her. But, according to her persona she is more Gryffindor to me. Considering that they have no patience for boredom and that’s Applebloom.

I’m sorry, but Severus hardly qualifies as a “good Slytherin”. He’s a “highly morally grey Slytherin” at best.

While he might have been on the good side to some extent, he still decided that because he didn’t get Lily Potter’s ass, this excused him from treating every non-Slytherin student like shit, especially Harry, and in his case it’s especially confusing because while Harry did look like his father, he still was Lily’s child, meaning that Snape was shitting all over something that his supposedly beloved Lily loved very much.

The bottom line is, he definitely did NOT deserve to have one of Harry’s kids be named after him. And he definitely does NOT qualify as a “good” Slytherin.

I would like to add Severus Snape to that list. Spoilering the name in case anyone is reading this comment section without having finished the series, but he’s probably the best Slytherin we get to see during the story.

They don’t actually match up with the HP canon either. There’s a gap of at least four centuries between Merlin’s birth in Arthurian legends (sixth century) and his birth according to Pottermore (Hogwarts was founded near the end of the first milennium).

Anyway, I’d love to discuss more HP lore with y’all but… Well, it’s past midnight here so expect me to not reply for a while.

Albus is. Dorea Potter is a relative of both Harry and Sirius, most likely Harry’s great-aunt. Merlin is long dead before the beginning of the main series, but both he and Dorea were Slytherins according to Pottermore. Which means that yes, it’s canon. And The Cursed Child isn’t really a book per se, it’s more of a script to the play.

By the same token, it would have been nice to actually see some decent Slytherins in the books. As it is, I kind of wonder why being put in Slytherin isn’t treated like pre-crime in Minority Report: “Well, we definitely know you’re evil, so may as well throw you in prison now and get it over with.” (Or something like that.)

Diggory probably was the most famous, but for whatever reason he never left much of an impression on me. (And his after-the-fact association with the Twilight series probably doesn’t exactly help him out there.) I did always like Sprout, but I can’t remember MacMillian or Abbot doing anything more significant than “and they were also there.”

Were they in the new book/play? I keep forgetting that one’s out now.

Exactly. As Hagrid said, ‘Better Hufflepuff than Slytherin’, although I’m equally sure there are some decent Slytherins, like Professor Slughorn. As far as I know, besides Professor Sprout, and some of Harry’s acquaintances, like Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abbott, I think the most notable Hufflepuff was Cedric Diggory.

Yeah, they do have some qualities in common. Too bad there weren’t more memorable Hufflepuffs; maybe then it would have a better reputation.

(Though being put into “you are boring” Hufflepuff would still be miles better than “you are definitely evil” Slytherin.)

Oh, I wouldn’t say so. The Apples are kind, hard-working folk, and those traits are prominent in Hufflepuffs. I’ve never found anything to complain about with Hufflepuff House, and I actually kinda wish it didn’t keep getting the bad rap it doesn’t deserve.
