Why did she have to use the “Want it, need it” spell anyway?
 
I wondered this myself. Going on the comic, it seems that Twilight was also “enjoying” the “experiment”, too. So perhaps less of a “have” to use it, and more of a want to?
 
I can think of two possibilities. She used it on a physical object like a (possibly makeshift) dildo so Mascara would use it (very enthusiastically), or she used it on her pony bits, so Mascara wouldn’t stop masturbating. But that doesn’t seem to line up with how we know the spell works, but then again this is Pencils’ work, and if he wants to change it he can.
 
 
There’s a third possibility, but it’s unsupported by the dialogue since the goal was to get Mascara off. She used it on herself so Mascara would, ah, pay attention to her. Lots and lots of attention to her. Until the spell wore off.
