An update of a recent upload. Couple of iffy lines, and Fluttershy’s right ear (viewer’s left) was way too high.
Those faults have been corrected here.
@SeraphimDawn
Yep. Always have.
I did start out originally using felts, but they don’t give as good a finish. You can’t do fade effects with them like you can with pencils.

I must admit, I do often link to my own artwork when making replies here if it’s relevant to what I’m saying.
Uploads to the site can be off the front page in minutes, meaning they simply don’t get seen.
As for ‘begging for votes’, that’s a bit harsh.
Viewers will vote if they feel the image deserves it.
Oh, and as for improving?
Here’s one of my early uploads, and a recent one for comparison.
@Background Pony #E9E9
Like I said - everyone who voted for this image had their own reasons for doing so. As for if he’s promoting his art or not - I’m quite a bit behind on forum reading, so I wouldn’t know either way.
Oh,thanks for clarifying, before that I though the featured image is solely based on artistic merits or creativity, guess I am just plain wrong on this part.
So this featured image is more of a participation/recognition badge than an achievement, eh?
Maybe it is my biased observation, but most time when I encounter the 40k’s posts in forum, it is almost felt they have the ulterior intention of promoting his work, or simply put: increase exposure to gain publicity.In some cases, it is just a thinly veiled up-vote points begging post. Of course, this is just my personal opinion, some might see it differently.
I certainly hope the creator actually manage to improve his craft in the coming year, hope you create something that is truly splendor and enchanting, all the best.
@Stitch
It was proposed to site staff (~50 people) to vote on and it won. It’s cute, it’s well made, it makes people smile,it’s from someone that’s given infinitely more to the fandom than you, it won the vote, it’s featured for 3 days.
I would like to know how you know what i did “for” the fandom. I have other interests that are not art related. Just because you draw ponies doesn’t mean you did anything for the fandom. Lol.
I didn’t expect this to show up as this weeks featured image. While it’s true the image is okay compared to what’s been psoted before it, 40k is a hard-working artist and one of the few traditional artists who are active in uploading their art on the booru. He was bound to get his due someday. Congratulations man, you deserved it.

He only promotes his art within the SFW Artist Thread, and sometimes suggests one of his images in the Featured Image thread.

There’s no specific criteria for choosing a featured image beyond it having to be rated “safe”. There were several staff members who voted for this image to be featured, each with their own reasons, I’m sure.
Me, personally, I voted for it because 40k is a very active member of the site, who is always drawing and constantly trying to improve, and I felt that was worthy of some recognition. I had no idea he was “promoting [his] own work persistently on the forum”, so that wasn’t a factor in my vote.
@Stitch
I am thankful to the site staff for my chance to get my doodles seen.
Yes, my style is pretty basic when compared to the great artists out there, some of which truly deserve a chance to get seen.
However, consider this.
Most of the featured images are very well done, but are out of reach of many artist’s skills to match.
My own drawings should help inspire others here to have a go. We can all draw, just have a try, see what you can do.
Who knows, one day it could be one of your own pieces up there in the featured spot.

I did. And thankyou.
Bit surprised when it came up on here, but thankful to the site staff.
Just hope I can continue to improve.
@Lillian
Again, thanks.

I have improved a bit over the course of my drawing.

Technicaly, yes. Though it takes thousands (and maybe even tens of thousands) of years to happen (read: never) xD
Edited because: watermelons everywhere
It’s definitely not the first time but yeah it doesn’t happen that often.
That wasn’t my intention, but they came out about that size. I also have pet cats, so they do have some influence on my artwork.
@Salamenace
I do sometimes link my artwork on other images, if it’s relevant to my comment, (much as I have here). That could be what they meant.
