It’s a bit cliche, sure, but only because the fandom forced it.
 
There’s all sorts of room to pull it off well, and it would justify all the Twilight/either/both Princesses (friend)shipping. There’s also room for it to fail miserably, but the writers tend to not disappoint too much.

“Twilicorn” huh? I think that if they do choose that route, then wouldn’t it be more fitting as either a season-ending paradigm shift, or a series ending one?
 
Let’s be clear here, twilight becoming part of the pantheon would be a major paradigm shift… actually, how would it be, since in-universe, we don’t actually know much about the functionality of it’s pantheon
