There’s also the possibility that “stealing magic” isn’t what we think it is.
The early leaks mention some magic stones that “give you control of the natural elements” being an important plot point.
What if the Storm King steals some important magical artefacts from Equestria, which puts the world at risk because either A) the stones are required to keep Equestria running or B) in his hands he has the power do bad things.
And thus the reason the Mane 6 have to travel is to chase after him and get the stones back.
My point is the synopsis is light on details and there could be more to this than just a copy of Tirek.
Also the back stories could be different. Tirek tried to do his plan once, was betrayed by his brother, gets sent to prison, and basically tries and do it again only with a layer of revenge added to his plan.
Stormy probably got kicked out of Villain Grad school for Evil Plan Plagiarism.

Or you could just mind your own business and let other people express themselves?
Isn’t as if anyone is going to obey what some random internet guy playing minimod is saying anyway.
@Der_Fur_Shur
Well, Tirek first came to Equestria from a distant land, intent on stealing Equestrian magic from the get-go.
It sounds like the Storm King simply got the same idea. It will be interesting if this guy doesn’t have the ability to suck magic and has to steal it some other way.
pretty much exactly what i expected when i first heard that the premise of the movie was them fighting some kind of great evil. seems to be a pretty by-the-numbers plot synopsis but at the same time this is still a very early and rather vague synopsis. i’m certain that the similarities in species and overall evilness between tirek and the storm king are not coincidental; maybe they’re related or something?

Don’t confuse the inane suggestions of Sony executives with the contents of the movie draft.
@Jarkes
A suggestion is not a demand. From the beginning Sony was fully aware it would only be involved as a distributor (this is mentioned in another email rarely discussed) and would not be given any control. For all we know Sony are the ones who turned down Hasbro because of this being a deal-breaker for them.
That was a separate idea. The dumbass Sony exec was the one who wanted “ponies in live-action New York a la the Smurfs”, which is why Hasbro and DHX wisely noped out of that deal and went with Lionsgate instead.
