When I see him, I imagine a majestic race of gigantic ponies with claws on their hooves living in a huge city high up in the skies….. And that thought actually just triggered something I had almost forgotten.
He could come from Cirrostrata. In the third book of the Daring Do Adventure Collection, ““Daring Do and the Forbidden City of Clouds[](http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Daring_Do_and_the_Forbidden_City_of_Clouds), Daring Do visits a city called “Cirrostrata”. The ponies living there hid it with an ancient artifact called the “Halo” or the “Half-Gilded Horseshoe” until Daring Do took it with her and the city appeared in the sky.
In the book, the ponies of Cirrostrata are described as “unique type of pegasi” and as ponies who “appear exotic and mystical” and when Daring Do enters the city she observes them to have “distinctive, rabbitlike ears and three vertical stripes underneath one eye”.
Stratus Skyranger here has ears that appear rabbitlike. Only the three vertical stripes under his eye are missing, but that might be just painting and the pegasi of Cirrostrata don’t always wear those.
So, Stratus Skyranger could come from Cirrostrata.
It would also make sense for Cirrostrata to get involved in the fight against the Storm King, with it being a city in the clouds. So my bet goes on that, he comes from Cirrostrata.
