I’m still going to grumble internally at it being applied to a stallion, however, heh.
I know I said I’d take your word on it’s meaning, but I just want to point out that while that may be it’s meaning in universe, for the sake of tagging it would be more effective to have all instances be under one tag.
Not sure about that. I’d use the same argument against it, however. The Mare in the Moon was about a specific thing tied to a specific event. I guess in that timeline the idea would’ve been transferred to her, but in the real timeline, it was exclusively about Luna.

Well, in the first episode Twilight’s book specifically mentions “Mare in the Moon” in relation to the Elements of Harmony and Nightmare Moon. That’s enough for me to support the idea that it’s about her specifically, especially given the fact that there’s only ever been one, and that was a direct result of her banishment. Unlike our world, in which the “man in the moon” is a common cultural thing derived from people seeing what they believe to be a person or animal on the moon, out of the surface detail.

But then the question becomes, is the tag meant for any instance of a pony figure on the moon, or is it only valid when specifically refering to Luna?
I’ll take your word on the latter, though.
I pulled the tag off a similar image for the simple fact that it’s not the “mare in the moon” as the show lore goes, and since it’s technically not a mare, being Blueblood and all.
