The way I see it is that Rainbow Blaze and Bow Hothoof are the same pony. It’s just that we have to accept that the ponies also evolved a bit during the time. I mean come on guys, we don’t need to have a separate unique personality for every new character that shows up. We can have ponies come back into a ponies’s lives, like Moondancer and Gilda. Bow is in the same boat–we knew who he was, but before we didn’t have much if any info to go on, so we have to come up with backstory and reason for him. At least we we saw Filly RD in season 3, we all saw that there was an older pony at least related to her instead of an orphan. Hell, some of us was already calling the stallion that RD was sitting on her father, or at least her brother.
In my opinion Season 7 confirmed to me the stallion in ‘Games Ponies Play’ was indeed her father, just that he’s been updated, as well as giving a actual name (after all, we came up with Rainbow Blaze as her father, there wasn’t a name yet.) All that different is that they updated the cutie mark, as well as what he looks like.
And we are all creative in all of our own ways. We shouldn’t let an update cause so much strife among us because our headcanons were dashed. Use it to your advantage. That’s what the AU is for.

Y’know, Kora Kosicka, current lead character designer, has been with the show as a character designer since season 3, when Rainbow Blaze was introduced in “Games Ponies Play”. I think she would know whether or not Rainbow Blaze was intended to be Rainbow Dash’s father.
DHX is not obligated to confirm your headcanon, no matter how reasonable it may be.
I admit, I kinda find it odd that people were so attached to the idea of Blaze specifically being RD’s dad when he easily could have been (and still could be) another male relative.
@Background Pony #7A92
It’s at least something. What do you have to prove that he was meant to be the father aside from speculation? As for Jim’s tweet, he could’ve said we seen the dad but he didn’t. Some people just don’t want to give up their headcanon. As for the S6 appearance, I’m pretty sure they plan future episodes in advance. I’m almost certain by the time that episode aired they already had the character designed and ready.

The first version was basically RD’s colors/manestyle on a stallion and lacks personality. This new version gives a better idea of “who he is”.
@Macaroni C-Pony
The main point that needs to be addressed is that EITHER ONE fits just as well for the purpose of Scoots and RD’s dynamic.
Scoots folks not being there (don’t matter if they are dead, gave her up as a foal, or are neglectful workaholics) means she is frequently trying to find someone to attach to. She idol worships RD and RD was able to open up her more sensitive side to Scoots enough to be “practically sisters”.
And now with RD’s folks, who took an instant liking to her, she’s potentially got the “supportive family” she’s always wanted and needed.
Lauren Faust said that Scootaloo is NOT an orphan, and that they are just too busy to spend time with her or rarely do, which is actually more emotional in hindsight, considering Rainbows own parents smother her.
This would actually bring Rainbow and Scootaloo CLOSER.
The evidence being used to say it’s not the same character isn’t exactly solid.
-The character designer does not have final say on what the character is used for.
-The Enterplay cards aren’t exactly canon either.
-Just because Blaze showed up in season 6 doesn’t mean they’re not the same character either, they aren’t going to use a whole new model for a new speaking character for a split second scene, and it likely wasn’t even finished yet
-I haven’t seen any of Jim’s tweets say they’re not, just that “we haven’t met her parents yet”, as in, both of them, in a speaking role.
Until they’re in the show together side by side, or a staff member on the 20th when the episode airs on Discovery says they’re not the same, I’m in the boat that says they’re the same character.

I’m banking on cousin.
And I headcanon that he was dating Rainbow Shine while taking young Rainbow Dash out to see the Equestrian Games designation ceremony.
@Background Pony #7A92
True we’ve seen redesigns. But this isn’t a redesign. The bloke showed up last season and we have staff members stating that he’s a different character. He could still be her uncle.
@Dr Outback
I think it’s pretty clear that Blaze and Bow are two different ponies. Their cutie marks and body types are completely different, both in the present and in flashbacks.
@Macaroni C-Pony
>Blaze and firefly are aunt and uncle
I could go with this
>also scoots parents
Not too cool with this. Orphan via parent death, parent abandonment, or parent neglect all work without needing to ever show her parents.
it also makes Scoots bonding with RD’s family all the more sweet, because, in a literal sense, unlike her biological family, RD’s family is there.
New headcanon, Blaze and Firefly are Rainbow’s uncle and aunt, AND the parents of Scootaloo, and Rainbow Dash has corced them over the years into never allowing her to know this,
With TWO obvious reasons why
Reasons who CAN’T follow her 24/7
