Yeah, when you think about it, Grand Pear is a pretty tragic character. He might’ve missed out on a lot if the implication is that he absolutely never went back to Ponyville since he left his daughter. It’s really heart wrenching.

That is soul crushing.

Truly heartbreaking the more you think about it.

Imagine when he hears about the long, arduous journey Applebloom went through to finally earn her cutie mark. And he missed it by maybe a year at most because he took so long to come back, even beyond it being too late to reconsile with his daughter.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

The Fluffiest
Knowing the general concept of the episode, how he reacted to Applebloom, I already knew where it was going. And even knowing where it was going, that it was probably going to lead to this scene, it’s STILL an emotional gutpunch, because of all the unspoken things, like him getting to meet his grandchildren who he’s never known because of his own, stubborn mistake in the past. All the years he’s missed, all the milestones. And that bit from Crusaders of the Lost Mark gets just that much sadder.

At first I thought there was something off with his acting, but he sounded so much more spritely when he was playing a younger Grand Pear. So the old, worn down tone in his voice must have been intentional.

This, this, a hundred times this. That’s what I got and why Granny got so upset anytime a Pear was mentioned. He disowned his daughter and never showed up, didn’t see his grand kids and didn’t come to her funeral as by that time, he was too ashamed. He only showed up when he realized he wasn’t going to get any younger and wanted to make amends for his mistakes.

Just…. His delivery on the regret in his voice is fantastic and really carries the weight of someone who really regretted his decision that cost him his daughter.

Shatner, you still got it.

The thing that really got me is Grand Pear’s speach as a old man reminds me of a lot of my patients with early stage parkinsons. That really got me in the feels, and props to Shatner if that was indeed intentional.
