While I’m not happy with everything the show’s done recently, it’s still “optimistic, lighthearted, and fun” and features “good characters [I]’d like spending time with”, IMHO. If you want to spend precious hours focusing on a show you feel is pessimistic, dour, and no fun with bad characters that you find annoying, well, it’s your life. But I have seen some bronies who don’t like the Starlightification of MLP singing the praises of Paw Patrol instead, so maybe give that a try?

Some people take this children’s cartoon way too seriously.
 
I’m sorry, I love the show and have since 2011. But the show has never, never been “srs bzns” for me. If you feel the need to make a massive rant like this over one character you don’t like, maybe it’s time to step back and ask yourself why you just made a five paragraph rant about a fictional pink pony whose very existence seems to be an affront to you.
 
Greg Hoffman isn’t doing MAS anymore because, after seven years, the show lost him. It took him six years just to finish satirizing season 1 and he was never realistically going to catch up doing one episode a month. He spouted a bunch of drivel about things not making sense anymore, but the people who thought this was going to be the “stuck in perpetual status quo” formula where the characters never grow or learn anything must have failed to notice what that formula inevitably does to a cartoon. To say nothing of the fact that he’s currently satirizing his thoughts on how Equestria’s a magical place where magical things happen and you can achieve your dreams if you try.
 
The show is still light-hearted, optimistic and fun. What you’re complaining about is that it’s evolved to continue being light-hearted, optimistic and fun while allowing the characters to grow and learn instead of letting the characters grow stale and become shadows of themselves like The Simpsons did.
 
If you hate it so much, do us all a favor and fuck off already. You hate the show, you hate Starlight and you’re at odds with the fandom. How is it you think you’re right when you’re one of a handful of people this angry? Why are you still here? Do you think you have a point to prove? Or do you just enjoy being an asshole? Seasonal Rot doesn’t apply just because you say it does.

Okay, but that’s Uncommon Bond, not Shadow Play. And, the way it’s depicted more of a physical light hologram than an actual regression spell. Otherwise it wouldn’t account for the change of scenery as well from the same spell.

She created a spell that put her and Sunburst back in their old home and turned them into foals, but it didn’t hurt anything because she was able to easily reverse it did so the moment Sunburst told her to. So it may have seemed a bit extreme but it really didn’t hurt anything.
