Somebody else who’s read The Man Who Folded Himself? Awesome! :)
I also really enjoyed “By His Bootstraps” and “All You Zombies—”, similar kinds of time-loop stories, by Robert Heinlein. :)
The best part about trying to follow a time traveling story that involves keeping track of multiple copies of the same person, is becoming utterly lost and confused amongst the chaos. XD
Oh, okay. Hah.
But then the odds of encountering a female copy of yourself who’s identical are actually only as good as having an identical twin sister, so… Or actually a lot less.
That book does have the main character encountering a female version of himself from a alternate time line to which he impregnates his female self to create a male and female version of himself and his alternate female self, so he and she become permanently stuck in a endless time loop.
Okay, one creates genetically identical copies.
The other usually has a host of genetic problems.
That story gets close-ish, but we’re talking “what would be the offspring of rule 63 of a character with themself”, so, not the same as being your own father (Red Dwarf did that as well with Lister).
I guess the question gets at; what makes it so that siblings having offspring creates genetic problems? Would that cause of the problems also exist with a r63 of yourself?

There’s a old science fiction story that I read as a kid that Seriously wrapped my brain…
The Man Who Folded Himself, a story about a young guy who is gifted a time traveling device,
he seriously over does it with the whole time traveling bit and becomes his own father and son,
So…. To answer your question, yes.
Would it be like if twins had children, or would it just be cloning?…
