About Fluttermac; in all my queries and studies into why this pairing refuses to “sink”, I’ve come up with some reasons;
 
  1. Popularity.  
  2. Similar personalities and behaviors, which only adds to the aforementioned popularity.  
  3. During season 1, when the fandom was just starting out, there weren’t as many “prominent” males in the show as there are now. Because Big Macintosh was one of those early “prominent males”, it meant he got to be shipped with pretty much every member of the mane 6. But because of the previously mentioned similar personalities, he was most prominently shipped with Fluttershy. Because of this and basic human behavior, it means that Fluttermac continues despite canon to the contrary just because it was one of the earliest, most popular ships.
