It is something very difficult, it can be said that it is almost impossible. Korrasami became canon thanks to the pressure of the fandom (to be more precise, those who ship Korra with Asami), who managed to make the creator make that ship official. But My Little Pony / Equestria Girls is a completely different case: Sometimes the writers make winks where they show certain pairs of friends being together, but that’s it. Although the fandom explodes in fits of rage and madness, asking Hasbro to make canon to certain ships of the six protagonists, the writers, producers and directors know perfectly that no ship of the six protagonists will be canon, although the fandom puts pressure and petitions on Change.org. Hasbro is not stupid enough to accept the demands of certain toxic sectors of the fandom.

First of all, I used to think that the ship has something to do with Fluttershy acting like an angry violent bitch (much to being less kind as her element is supposed to be: Kindness) against innocent ponies (in Putting Your Hoof Down) and also with Twilight Sparkle (in Magic Duel), Zephyr Breeze (Flutter Brutter), Applejack and Rainbow Dash (Buckball Seasons) and Rarity (Fame and Misfortune) not to mention Fluttershy got hate after Putting Your Hoof Down.

Oh. I’m assuming you’re talking about Fluttercord (or Discoshy as this site’s tagging system would call it)? People have been shipping her with Discord long before those episodes, even back when he wasn’t given the chance to reform. A lot of people who are into it were more gravitated to the “opposites attract” kind of thing regarding them. So no, her being a “bitch” in these episodes weren’t the reason why people shipped her with Discord.

Honestly if you were to ask my opinion, the only time where I felt she was being “bitchy” would be Putting Your Hoof Down (and I feel that was kind of the point) and possibly Magic Duel. Applejack and Rainbow Dash were honestly pushing her and Pinkie Pie to the point of extreme stress for their own selfish gain. Her anger was understandable there.

Same goes for her treatment towards Zeypher. He was pretty much taking advantage of not only Fluttershy’s kindness but the kindness of their parents and Fluttershy’s friends. He was being lazy and he didn’t respect other’s personal space and belongings (leaving Fluttershy’s house a mess and not cleaning it up himself, lying in Rarity’s bed and presumably reading her diary, putting his stuff all around his parents’ house without their consent, flirting with Rainbow Dash even though she’s not into him and was uncomfortable, etc.).

I think what MrSeyker, ArrJaySketch, Zyr87, and Beau Skunky had to say here has quite a bit of in terms of Fluttershy’s character has quite a bit of merit to it.

Also I think people gravitate on the Mane 6’s elements way too much. If they stayed true to their element all of the time, it would kind of make their characters kind of flat. Not to mention straying from their element once in a while makes them feel more real. A person who is loyal isn’t going to be loyal to everyone, a person who is truthful will still lie once in a while and tell little white lies, a person who like to laugh and make people smile isn’t going to be happy all the time, a generous person can not give all the time or else they’ll have nothing or people can easily take advantage of them, and a kind person can still have their breaking points when they’ll get angry and have to put their foot down. Yes, the elements they’re associated with are huge parts of their character, but I don’t mind there being some wiggle room here and there for them to act outside of their element.

This shitty mindset that I kinda regret it (despite still disliking Cheerimac and Sugarmac) because Total Drama World Tour made me think that since Courtney is hated by the fandom when she turned from a nice girl to an evil angry violent bitch just because Duncan and Gwen became a couple in the show. After TDWT, it made me think the same way in iCarly when in the iOMG/Seddie saga when Carly said “I am gonna kill Sam and Freddie” like a psycho angry bitch. and in Star vs. the Forces of Evil, when Jackie and Marco started dating each other, Star is unhappy for them, she is upset with them and she even destroyed Jackie’s skateboard in Bon Bon the Birthday Clown, and in Just Friends, Star destroyed something outside of the Stadium because again, SHE IS UNHAPPY FOR JARCO OUT OF JEALOUSY, Just like Courtney is unhappy for Gwuncan. And I doubt Star and Jackie are gonna become enemies because of that. (At least Star doesn’t get hate like Courtney does)

But I thought people don’t seem to realize because “iT hAd NoThInG tO Do WiTh tHiS”. Until, I realized that Fluttershy’s bitchiness and Star’s jealousy outburst had nothing to do with either my NOTPs nor Total Drama World Tour. So, no. It had nothing to do with this.

I just thought of it out of my head after realizing that despite her kindness still being there, she had character development after Putting Your Hoof Down and episodes were written long before it’s produced and animated. (Even though I have doubts if I am still allowed to dislike Cheerimac and Sugarmac)

If it wasn’t for Total Drama World Tour, i wouldn’t cherrypick shit.

I’m sorry. I’m not too familiar with any of these other fandoms you’ve mentioned. I mean, I have heard of them, but I’ve never watched them. Well, I did watch Star Vs, but only about like 5 episodes. It’s still not really much to know much about the characters all too well.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience in the Total Drama fandom though.

And exactly. Fluttershy’s kindness and shyness is still a huge part of her character. She’s just not as cripplingly shy as she used to be and she’s also more assertive.

Uh…yeah? You’re allowed to like or dislike any ship you want. As long as you’re respectful to other people, I really don’t see a problem with that. I’m kind of indifferent to both of those ships to be honest with you (they’re neither my OTPs or NOTPs) but my opinion or other people’s opinion shouldn’t really make you be afraid of what to ship or not ship. It’s just a TV show.

So please, no hostility since I don’t want to assume that disagreement equals hate when it really isn’t, even if people are going hard on me to understand their rebuttals.

Second of all, Haven’t you seen Friendship Games or episodes such as Simple Ways that are written by Haber? He formerly was a writer in Kaijudo before he went to MLP. He is also responsible for pissing off the fandom by redesigning Thorax and reforming Starlight Glimmer. And the Fox brothers are writers in MLP, who wrote episodes such as Applejack’s “Day” Off, which it’s kinda Rarijack ship fuel instead of either Sparity or Twijack fuel.

Asking that question implies that you either didn’t see the episodes or you didn’t notice the writing credits.

I have seen those. But no, no I didn’t notice the credits. Even if I had payed attention to them, I’m pretty bad at remembering names anyways so I probably would have still asked you.

Haber didn’t piss this fan off with either of those things. Granted I think Starlight’s reformation was a bit rushed and it took me a while to get used to the “Changedlings” but I honestly ultimately liked both decisions, despite them not being executed perfectly.

As for the Fox Brothers and that particular episode, I’m sorry but I didn’t get any shipping vibes from it at all. And even if the episode was shipping fuel, that’s kind of all that it is. Just a tease of a ship, not an exact confirmation or endgame of the ship or anything like that. There’s so many different episodes where two ponies of the show get focus anyways so there’s lots of “shipping fuel” in many of the episodes. There’s still Sparity shipping fuel as well in past episodes (and even in some of the leaked ones). So yet again, it’s not that big of a deal.

Third of all, Shipping in the MLP fandom came long before Equestria Girls, with ships such as Appledash and Rarishy.

I’m very aware of that. When it comes to any show, fans are ready to ship at the first episode (hell, some even do it before the show even comes out). Rarijack itself even got some of its early shipping fuel steam from Look Before You Sleep back in season 1.

I’m saying that Equestria Girls kind of helped some ships get a bit more popular in the fanbase, especially given the fact that I see more shipping fuel there than I do in the main show.

You have a very good point there. I’m thinking it could be like a cycle. The ship gets popular in the fandom, the show teases at it a bit, then it gets even more popular.

You’re also very right in regards to Sunsetsparkle. The two of them are a very good match for those reasons.

And you’re right. All of the ships among the Mane 6 are very popular. They’re kind of all their own shipping bicycles. And I think so, SoarinDash is still a very popular ship.
