I have to disagree. That’s not the point I’m trying to make. While that would be nice, I’m focused on why the badge as a whole contributes nothing but unhealthy discourse and does nothing to stop the person and help them change. It’s only purpose is to put a target on someone.

And I believe I’ve followed the former for quite some time now, given that being an asshole, especially here, is just pointless. I’m not the 16 year old I was when I joined this site. I’d like to think I’m more mature than what I was years ago.
 
I believe what you, and the majority of the mods don’t like is how I, as you put it, skirt the rules. I disagree entirely that it’s an issue, given that staying within the rules shouldn’t be grounds for a branding with the almighty iron. I believe I understand it much more clearly in the essence that, yes, I gave the moderators lots of annoying issues in the past and I deserved what I got for those.
 
Personally, I’d just like my grievances to be heard. But, it’s only more disheartening to hear from a moderator from the site that, indeed, the first thing that’d be done would be to throw out my thesis on the matter. If they’re wrong, then that’s refreshing to hear.

The duck badge is for troublemakers who skirt the edge of the rules, people who continually give the staff headaches. Those who merely break the rules just get increasingly lengthy bans. Of course there are also people who do both, and you seem to fall into that category.
 
There are reviews to see if any warrant removal (usually at TSP’s direction), and many have. If you’ve done some pretty heinous shit, then yeah it’s unlikely to go away.
 
They are definitely not given at whim. Any such abuse would be quickly noticed and dealt with. All moderation is logged.
